I recently read about the USS William D. Porter, a destroyer class ship, one of the many that the US quickly assembled and deployed with a fresh crew to face the German and Japanese threats in WWII.
You know, sometimes reality can surpass fantasy, and that's the case with this ship, whose story might as well have been taken by a Mel Brooks movie. Yet, by googling "USS William D. Porter" you can find plenty of results, and all of them (including Wikipedia) confirm the incredible tragi-comic episodes filling the short service life of this ill-fated destroyer, that even went close to change world's history.
