How about correcting the pilot figure?
#1

Hi all.
I'm Spyros Tsimas, from Patras, Greece, AKA elephant, well known pilot skinner in il2 community.
I have to congradulate all of you for the fabulous work you did on the Sound mod!
I enjoy the most the reenablement of the High Gore feature, it's Great as well.
It is well known that the helmet modeled on the pilot 3d model in game is wrong even if Oleg never accepted it, when I first mentioned it to him.
Ilya, (Luthier), was less stubborn to admitt it and concented to remove the unhistoric bulge from the pilots helmet top for the Pacific Fighters release, but the corrected pilot 3d model was finally placed only in the F4U and A-20 series of a/c ! Sad
Is it possible to edit this corrected pilot 3d model, (the one that is currently used in the F4Us and A-20s), to every other a/c in game, as well?
Can anyone adresses me the files I have to edit to do so, if possible?

Thanks, Smile

I'm working on it

sadly there are no direct russian and german pilots, only these:

3do/plane/Textures/pilot1.tga
3do/plane/Textures/pilot2.tga
3do/plane/Textures/pilot3.tga
3do/plane/Textures/pilot4.tga
3do/plane/Textures/pilot9.tga
3do/plane/Textures/pilotA.tga

I've tested them so that I gave each pilotskin a different color and I opened different planes/nationalities in QMB but it seemed me illogical what I saw, you should test it to

now if I acn find a little time, I'm gonna go to the sfs extract tool and try to locate and check in CS3 the original textures and then maybe I'll be able to figure out which is which

us and japs seem to me ok (perhaps corrected in Pacific fighters?) :

3DO/Plane/Textures/Ja01.tga
3DO/Plane/Textures/Ja02.tga
3DO/Plane/Textures/Ja03.tga
3DO/Plane/Textures/Pilot_US_001.tga
3DO/Plane/Textures/Pilot_US_002.tga
3DO/Plane/Textures/pilot_US_Yellow.tga

sorry currently I'm having lot of trouble with work and personal life so I cant fully concentrate on these otherwise intersting things

My post was not refering to the default pilot skins (textures) but to the corrected pilot 3d model (the one with no bulge on top of the helmet) that is currentlly assigned only to the A-20 and F4U series of planes and should be edited to every plane in game... :?

Sorry, I wasnt precise enough: I'm working on the issue but I'm stuck with the textures.
I thought since its the more visible part of a pilot I should fix those first.

The thing you want to do is simple imho, u only need to extract each planes files from the sfs's, add them to filelist.txt list and use A-20 files as a master(see list below) for overwriting the 'pilot' files in the other directories

3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot1.mat
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot1_D0.msh
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot1_D1.msh
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot2.mat
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot2_D0.msh
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot2_D1.msh
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot3_D0.msh
3DO/Plane/A-20G(Multi1)/Pilot3_D1.msh

needs to be tested

if it is possible to replace the default pilots, i would like to recommend that we use some of elephant's skins - he has done my all-time favorite pilot skins over the years!
maybe you would make a special new skin for default pilots, elephant? - if it's possible, of course!

That's what I meant, but I don't know how to do it... :?
How can I open the sfs file ?
Is anybody willing to do it for me? and of course I'm willing to give the default pilots proper skins. Big Grin

for simple moding you need only the sfs extract tool, it works like winzip

you can browse inside sfs files and extract their content into a folder

in the sfs extract programs main window you can check the paths which should be added into the files.txt

then you must also create/copy the needed subfolders inside the 'files' directory then copy the extracted stuff there and start to modify it or replace it
