Taking what I can from the really interesting thread about skinning cockpits here; (The link is inoperative) I've been having a go at skinning Ships.
I thought a good place to start would be by skinning one of the US Navy CVE "jeep carriers" as a Royal Navy one. From the historical point of view this is good and bad, as although the Royal Navy used CVE's the ones we have are of a different class, ie. "Casablanca" as opposed to "Long Island" or "Bogue". Alot more about that here http://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/ESCORT/
Initial results are not great as can be seen in this wip screenshot where I've tried to skin the USS Kitkin Bay as HMS Emperor. All I've done so far is to change the deck ID from 84 to E and of course substituted a Royal Navy ensign in place of the Stars n Bars.
Many textures appear to be missing and holes have appeared in the deck and hull...alpha chanel, damage textures?;
Any help or ideas would be great :wink: Especially anything that might help to duplicate a ship so that we can have additional ships as opposed to simply re-skinning any of the few we already have.
