I told you so! Chapter 2

Discussing this in a proper fashion is certainly a good idea.

If it can be kept historical rather than hysterical, then there's a chance that some kind of advance can be had. Here's hoping.

Making "new" types from old by bolting on bit's from here and there did happen historically and to a fairly large degree. Sea Gladiator, Sea Hurricane, Seafire and even Sea Mosquito are the first to spring to my mind. These types initially came to be by simply bolting on catapult spools and arrestor hooks.

There are many examples of aircraft types that can be literally "put together". I saw what appeared to be a good example of this on a Russian forum (my Russians of the google variety so I may have got the wrong impression), where a guy was making a Yak-7 bubble top from a Yak-9 by adding the nose section of a Yak-1, great another historic aircraft to add, I thought, very innovative.

The thing about these kind of mods is that in order to work they require some alteration to a flight and or damage model somewhere down the line, even if it's just to allow the tail hook to work.

So it seems to follow that anyone with a bug bear about the altering of flight models, no matter how small, will also be unhappy about the addition of new types. That's going to be hard to get around for some as "the cat" is most certainly "out of the bag" and no amount of hysteria will change that.

I'm all for modding historical stuff, as long as it's done well, and if it's not being done by someone else I'll do it for myself, time allowing.

yeah of course you are free to discuss any thing here at AAA,

in my opinion you are all free to do what you like - but if there is any mod that tweaks the FM of aircraft i wont want it in the MODS download section -if you know what i mean

you all have any kind of download here unless its some kind of FM cheat in which case we will remove it straight away

Guys Mr.Jolly is right, while the FM rest untouched, we can try everything!! If you don't like the Franken Typhon, simply DON'T INSTALL!! Why you're trying to cut the freedom of others? I never fly online, but I love offline flying, the Battle will be welcomed to me

Thx Jolly, good policy. That is much appreciated. Mod's are great, changing the FM/DM to make a new plane, well, without ONE person as quality control, for EVERY new aircraft, there are too many variables and/or variants.

I think there are good directions for further developement such as map modding, adding cockpits to more ai planes, QMB expansions and the sound of course, but I'm not sure about the rest...

RealDarko, please read this:

I have no issues with anyone making something out of bits and pieces but I do think they should peddle their wares elsewhere.

They can set up shop somewhere and since there will definately be a market for their work, perhaps this site could add a link to their site and AAA can retain some credibility.

I am not trying to cut the freedom of anyone.

The people who have set up this site for us have shown themselves to be trying to keep a lid on things that could make IL2 and AAA into a joke in the overall IL2 world and we applaud their effort.

I am not saying there is no place for cobbled together planes, I am just saying that perhaps AAA is not that place.

To anyone working on adding planes that are not in the game, I wish you sucess.

LOL!

Seriously... the really great thing about this place is that we can all have civilized discussions as reasonable people. That, IMHO, is AAA's real strength. When's the last time on any of the "other" forums that you've seen a thread like this not descend into petty name calling? Here, we can sit down together and reasonably discuss issues. We may not always agree, but we don't have to. And that's okay.

OK - but if a "cobbled together plane" is so well done it actually looks exactly like the real thing - is this the place then? I vote Yes. It's just a question of establishing high standards right from the off. Jolly will see to that.

Re the 'credibility' of this site, I advise you not to worry - so far as certain people are concerned it has no credibility, and never will. 'All modding is illegal' - remember? Quite honestly, who does this site have to curry favour with? The rabid anti-modders will never change their minds - the rest of us are pretty relaxed about it all.

Untill and FM can be modded AND re-packed to the sfs or wherever they live , its a threat to some ,a temptaion to others.

For Username:
You ask:
"OK - but if a "cobbled together plane" is so well done it actually looks exactly like the real thing - is this the place then? I vote Yes."

I vote no, BUT if it looks like a Typhoon and within game parameters has a proper flight model and damage model for a Typhoon then OK.

" It's just a question of establishing high standards right from the off. Jolly will see to that."

That is a given based on his and LtWolfs' actions heretofore and their responses to all questions raised today.

I understand that we will never have any credibility with certain factions and that most here are pretty relaxed about it all but there are many in neither camp looking on, waiting to see the direction taken here regarding just what mods will be added to IL2 through this site.
I do believe that effort should be made to reassure onlookers that AAA is only interested in enhancing the game, not using the tools, however obtained, to cheat anyone.

Today has been an eye opener and most here can be proud of their reactions to questions raised.

So, hugs all 'round and someone please make some missions for the new QMB maps, OK?

One could argue that, if the plane itself is so well represented, in the sense that, it doesnt have transparent gaps, doesnt have guns fireing from point's where there arent anyguns on the model, and it doesnt look like someone tried to produce a duck crossed with a warthog, and of course the FM and DM remains unchanged...

What harm could it do?
