Changing the displayed names

Phillip Wrote:[quote="Bearcat"]So does this mean that someone online would see one plane yet you would actually be flying another plane?

No, it shows on my list a F4U-1 (Corsair MkI), what you see is the Corsair MkI. ONLY and ONLY on my game, the name, I SAY AGAIN, just the name is changed. On your game it still is a Corsair MkI listed, NOTHING, I say ag

Let me count the fish in the gold fish tank. Hmm, so far they all appear to still be here thank god! Smile

The old sheriff of lago can't be here all the time to watch all the cattle rustlers and the thieving criminals and no good scoundrals and fish nappers that come into our town. I got to count on the town's people for that on occasion. So far you all have me mighty mighty worried. Sad

I would have hoped that if anyone read the whole thread that would be apparent.

Why do you ask? If it's because your looking for some "cloaking device" to increase you on-line tally then your talking to the wrong guy in the wrong shop.

If you want to test it out just say so and I'll pm you a link like I did for Phillip and Scharnhorst. I'm not keen on putting it forward as a mod until it's the way I want it...

Let me get something straight to you right now.

First off I am here .. asking questions because I want to know. Period. No hidden agenda... Secondly... I have no need whatsoever for any kind of "cloaking" device or anything like it. I really don't care about online points as I fly coops primarily and the only place where I keep track of stats at all is in our squadron campaigns which are private. I would rather go down in flames 9 times out of 10 knowing that the 1 is a GK gained from my own skill or my opponents lack thereof or any combination of the two.. This is the second time I have had to ask not to be insulted when I come here.. what is it with you folks.

Get off your high horse.... I may have opinions on modding that differ from yours, but I am here so that I may make a better informed choice on this whole issue. As I am sure most of you know, the primary concern with most folks who are opposed to modding in general is the capacity for online cheating.... (not that anyone here would do that... I am not saying or insinuating that ... but the potential for someone else who may not give a rat's @ss about the integrity of the sim or their own integrity for that matter. The term integrity is obviously meaningless to anyone who would use a mod to cheat in a competitive online venue.. flight sim or otherwise..) ... since I dont know much about these mods and I have not downloaded any of them the best way for me to find out about them is to go to the source and ask. I would certainly hope that I was not wasting my time by doing this.... I understand that some of you may be touchy to the subject... I also understand the modding and cheating are two different things... just like drinking and being an alcoholic are two different things... even though they are intimately related...

Let me know if I am just wasting my time here trying to initiate some kind of dialog in order to better understand what these mods are and what they do and I will jjust back off all together. Don't tell me to just download them and see,,, I downloaded googobs of mods for CFS... most of which were just a was6te of HD space... so this is my experience with mods and I am just trying to understand. I also don't need anyone making references to my UBI moderator status. In case you have not noticed.. this is not UBI and I am more than aware of that fact.

Why don't all you trolls and anti everything people just go back to where you came from? You don't want the mod, you don't care for it, then why come here and start a stink? If you are against it and so uprighteous then why register for the website that hosts it? That makes all of you guilty by assosiation. Either be against it, and stay the hell out, or use it and shut your mouth. Quit riding both sides of the fence. Take a dump or get off the toilet. It is that simple. If the people on other forums don't want us over there telling and showing what can be done, then we don't want you over here. How old are you people? Act like it. [/RANT]

Well d@mn... I didnt see all that....

Willy, I cannot speak for Bearcat but my thank you was sincere because you quickly put to rest the notion that it might be possible to cheat online with it.

I was pleased to see your response because we all know that any hedging on the issue would be construed the wrong way away from this site and no matter how little some here care about that, it does matter.

While I cannot speak for Bearcat I do believe his question a legitimate one that if asked by almost anyone else here would not arouse so much suspicion.

I know since the 'jc incident' everyone is touchy here, but I hope people can be a bit more civil.
I have 'known' Bearcat through his work at that 'other place' for years, and he has only ever acted with integrity and honesty.

welcome bearcat Smile sorry to hear you got off to a bad start there...
my personal stance on mods - is im ok with mods as long as they are as realistic as possible & they improve things - im not into FM tweaking because i think its best we just keep the standard thats been given to us - yes there are some fm's im not happy with but if we start to change fms it could start to get real messy so i think its best we just stick to whats there now. but as for the cockpit/gunner & bombsight mods as long as they are done as best as they can be ie in best/correct positions ect & we dont add things that arnt supposed to be there then im all for it. Smile we would like to keep a good standard of mods in the mods download section so they work properly / properly tested & i hope evryone is ok with that - im fine about people posting test stuff here in the discussion section but for the download section id like it if evrything there was working properly. Smile

@ Bearcat

I owe you an appology. Big Grin I really did not mean that aimed specifically at you. I really did not. That was in general, and at the some things that have gone on recently. :x We have had trolls lately, and I know you of all people know how it can get, since you know several of them from another forum ... So if you took that personally, I am sorry.

Welcome to the forum, and I can help answer any questions.

As for the sound mod, it has only changed gui, default skins, sound ... There is 0% tampering with FM's. It is frowned upon and shunned whenever it comes up. All cockits used to make AI flyables are from pitts we already have. There are no "Frankenpitts." In the bomber pack, there is a flyable B-17 with cockpit, topgunner, tailgunner, ballturret, bombadier. Many of these mods are simple, yet very noticeable things, such as reducing the dirt on takeoff, turning off AI navigation lights at night, default skins, adding a winter Norway map, .......

Anyway, sorry for the hostilities, no hard feelings.

Oh, and is my bann at the ubizoo perminant or temporary?

Got to admit Scharnhorst I was surprised to see that post at ubi. What sort of ban where you expecting? The actual sentiments you expressed in the post where valid, but the tone of the post and the swearing could only have one outcome. And I can see why BC would think it was aimed at him.

All to true Uther. However, the post was not specifically aimed at Bearcat. Looking back, I can see now why he would take it that way. I have already apologised though. Maybe I did go alittle overboard at Ubi, but too late to change it now. Oh well.

I have never been banned or taken a leave of absence before, so I am new to all of this. That is why I asked. I wanted to know if I just had my profile locked for a period of time or if I am totally toast and perinantly banned. There was no explanation in the thread by the mod who locked it and banned me. So I don't know ...

That's cool with me, I hope you understand I needed to check.

I sorry if you felt insulted as that was never the intention.
Bearcat Wrote:Get off your high horse.... I may have opinions on modding that differ from yours, but I am here so that I may make a better informed choice on this whole issue.
At the time of posting the above answer I had no idea about you or your opinions.
Bearcat Wrote:... since I dont know much about these mods and I have not downloaded any of them the best way for me to find out about them is to go to the source and ask. I would certainly hope that I was not wasting my time by doing this....
Now that's clear and in the open I'm happy to help you out if I can.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, the best way to check something out is to download it and see for yourself. I may well be wrong about that, but it is to the best of my understanding. I just offered to help is all.
Bearcat Wrote:I also don't need anyone making references to my UBI moderator status. In case you have not noticed.. this is not UBI and I am more than aware of that fact.
Like I said already, at the time of posting my answer to you, I knew nothing of you or your "status", and certainly did not make any "reference" to it.

You must have made some mistake in this respect.

It also may surprise you to know that I ready and willing to treat you as an equal, having zero interest in whatever status you may hold elsewhere good, bad or indifferent. Unlike a few I'm seeing here now.

To summarise all this, I think there are a quite few tensions surrounding the mod/IL2 scene and we seem to have totally misunderstood one another. For that I'm sorry, I hope you are too?

I'm not into cheating and I certainly don't like to be inferred as supporting cheating in any way.

Well as I've said above there's a fair bit of tension surrounding the current trend in IL2, cheating is the big question for alot of people and I don't like to look like an instigator. I'm sure you can understand that.

I'm not interested in the "who's who" in the real world, let alone the internet, I don't even own a television Big Grin So you guys are all an unknown quantity to me and you all get the same deal. If your nice and want help, I'll do what I can. If you zoom at me from two sides and make it feel like a witch hunt, then I'm gonna be abit prickly. Sorry for that.
