The Reskinning Cockpits Thread

Oh that's great!!! Put in your virtual cockpit a picture of your girlfriend Tongue

I really hope we'll have an official mod to change Bf109's cockpits soon.

PS: I can see that many of you can change the sight. Does anyone can send the files to do it ? Or release a mod.
A sight like it would be great (I think it's very realist after saw a video of Revi sight).

Yes, this is the (British) Air Ministry logo. If you do a google for Air Ministry logo, you will come up with a few pics like this; http://frank.pocnet.net/instruments/Mil ... ype71f.jpg

I'll have a look and see if I have any worth scanning for you. Also from what I've seen of these instruments, they don't all appear to have this logo on them.

Some years ago I had an Amps / Volts meter in a neat wooden case with the AM logo on it. Sadly it got junked, not by me.

And Willy thanks for the info, it will be usefull.
Interesting, but serching for some pictures about Hurricane cockpit, I released that we dont have Hurricane cockit at all, it sims that in game is Sea Huriccane cockpit, and no Hurricane Mk1 at all.

hello avala,

just a quick note to your remarkable job, the background of the dials was always black, and the lettering on the Turn n Bank indicator has a mistake, the letters in "Turn" were all in caps, just in different sizes.

"TURN" not "Turn"

Thanks Alex. Also release that I must change all insriptions with the right font not arial.

Gauges must have some patern because the game itself shows pure black as very dull, and with some „metal imitations“ it also looks cartoonish, (and glosy not mat) so this is sort of compromise. Also there is a question of colour of letters and numbers, they cant be pure white because they were made to be fluorescent, probably with some phosphorus coating or colour mix, so maybe little yelowish.

I made mistake and making them on the base of dials and gauges that we have in Il2 allready, which I see now are not 100% corect.

Avala, I helped the guys who did cockpit textures and trust me, most of the time the background of the gauges were without pattern, but the choice of the right shade of black (or dark gray for the matter!) made the difference. As per the dials, they used radium for them, so I'd opt for a mix between ivory and canvas color, ah and dont forget to do the layer with the siluettes of the luminescent dials, this will be necessary for the gauge in night use.

Thank you I apreciate every advise and sugestion. I am also interested in other cockpit parts too because i want to retexture them too. If I may ask in what way you helped them?

i provided caspar and pippz with most of the italian gauges for their macchi fighters. I remember fiddling with photoshop, researching docs, taking pics of the real planes, for months, but it was good fun,and the results were great i think. Smile

My talent doesn't extend very far, but I've been looking at the I-153 a bit. Lovely little bus.
Making new textures for the fabric sides and steel framework. Beginning to have a look at the panel too. The real one had qiute deep recesses to the instruments. Anyone know where i might find some ready made soviet gauges?

bee your experiments are really interesting, bear in mind though that the real canvas texture is very thin, and it's actually hard to see it once the paint is applied. As per the gauges, the best way for me was to create some photoshop multilayered templates, the biggest effort was in finding or recreating the most accurate lettering, another important rule is never use absolute colors (like black and white), because they tend to stand out too much. Try to fiddle with shades and colours, it's all a matter of finding the right blend. In my humble opinion the best cockpit is the gladiator one, the guy who made it is a true artist!

Bee, I think that your talent is great, and that looks great. Those metal bars is much beter that way, brighter then original, gaves me impresion of deepnes in cockpit somehow.
