Mosquito + rockets ?

100% with you Whizz... I don't give a rats arse what the nay sayers and anti modders think.. If they had their way we wouldn't even have this site, think about it! Do you really want to go down the road of appeasement, history shows that it doesn't flippin work.. If the proper controls are put on by the headshed here, why not include accurate loadouts etc..
It makes no difference if we don't touch the fm's here or not, because someone somewhere else will, guaranteed. At least through this team and site we have our own controls.

I do understand the reasons against some of this but I say to hell with them, there aren't any cheats here, just aviation enthusiasts.

um.
this is the reason that FM tweaks are being avoided. opinion, feelings etc. are not a sound enough basis to alter FMs.we may be enthusiasts, but there aren't many aeronautical engineers amongst us. fiddling with the stock FM's must remain a no-no. if/when models and FM's can be added then fine add them, just don't alter them on the basis of a feeling.
the mossie we have is a 1942 (iirc) model, which is, in it's planeset, still nippy as it needs to be. this may also be the issue with the mossie fb not having rockets, in that they may not have been fitted at that time in the war.

Point taken, and in that context (1942) I quite agree. It's a shame that there's no map or campaign available for a 1942 mosquito though. Perhaps then if we could at some point import new types into the game we could have a Mosquito FBVI_Late.

from wiki
"The most numerous Mosquito variant was the FB Mk VI fighter-bomber of which 2,718 were built. Originally converted from a Mk II, the Mk VI first flew in February 1943. Designed for a fighter-bomber role, the Mk VI could carry two 250 lb (110 kg) or two "short-fin" 500 lb (230 kg) bombs in the internal bomb bay as well as two more bombs under the wings. From early 1944, Coastal Command operated Mk VIs armed with eight 60 lb (27 kg) rockets to carry out anti-shipping strikes"
so not sure where that leaves it to be honest... nor how reliable wiki is of course.
hardballs viewer has it at "1942, FB Mk VI series 1" so that could be where i saw it. would certainly match with the lack of rockets and weaker perf
tis a shame that there isn't the campaign available, although there's still the night airfield raids (not sure when they started exactly) hitting bombers as they returned home, anti shipping or precision raids... if flares could be added then pathfinder missions as well. i think if tehre is any progress in the night fighter conversion that someone is doing then the mossie will certainly get some action, and it'd still be quicker than a 110

The book "Combat Legend: DeHavilland Mosquito" by Robert Jackson has the same info, Lo0n.

But it goes on to say that trials with 60lb RP's were conducted during spring 1943.

Basically we have a cross between a NF.II and a FB.VI. NF.II's were operational in 1942, but FB.VI's were not.

so we have a bit of a catch all mutant then... still useful for the nightfighter conversion, not so much for banf ops. how long was there between trials and operational use?

They dont give a date in the book. They say that the first operational squadron to recieve Mk.VI's was 418 squadron, in Spring 1943. I'll dig up some other books to see what I find.

EDIT: found a date. 418 Squadron first recieved their FB.VI's on 11 May, 1943. This is from Squadron-Signal publications. They also state that the RP rails became a standard option after the trials.

i read somewhere that 60 lbs rockets were uneffective against armored ships so then Mosquitos were armed with 25 lb AP rockets. This kind of rocket should be modellede from scratch... :?
