Retouch. Color change for reality mod.
#1

Hi. I did what I show you a long time ago. I posted this on few forums. Some may like it some not it is a matter of preference. I mostly was playing with changed colors. Sorry I used pics from this forum, I don't have my copy of PF now, and even not have hardware to play it. I paste original shot found in this forum, and then edited by me. All images have only color change on curve level, and all ale with same setting. It is very easy to do so on your graphic card, I used photoshop here. Enjoy and comments and questions are welcome Wink.

Well, I edited screenshots to show how it look, or can look. First screen is unedited one found on this forum. Second is altered. The magic is that anyone can change those colors to have them in game all the time. You need to change them in your graphic card panel. I know how to do it on nvidia (never had ati card) but it is possible on both. I can paste you old one settings, but they are old ones I tried. Basicly the curve I use here is S downed on dark colors (left bottom) and upped in light ones (right up) with advantage of green chanel, then blue, and last red. You can test them in photoshop f.e. on some screenshots, and then copy them to your graphic panel. Ok pics are more worth then 1000 words Wink

last one is more edited (blur, etc, but colors only altered by curves settings)
have fun Wink

I started to change colors of monitor setting couse I was bored by colors in il2. When I checked color index in game, I found that all colors are mild. No dark and very bright tones. Effect is not enough light in scene, contrast is weak, and dark colors are all same. If you bright up hole pic, and dakr it a bit with dark colors, you will see the difference. After I changed colors, I found water less black, and more blue (should be becouse it reflects sky), sky is more green, not dark muld blue. Give me some good quality screens with good skins on planes, and Ill show you how many more details are in this game that we don't see normally Wink.

Thats good Smile

Is there a way to copy paste RGB values for that screenshot with airacobras for example?

I'm affraid no. You can save your color profile in graphic setting tab, but I havn't found any way to retreive it in form of a file. Can't find it in any directory. If anyone knows when it could be stored, then I would be happy as you are. For now, you have to experiment with your own settings. All from first post was edited with same curve in photoshop, and this curve I can give you to use in photoshop and check it. Smile

download, put in some folder (might me in photoshop), open some screen in photoshop, put new adjustment layer/curves, klick load and open il2.acv, and ok. You can look how curve looks by selecting separate color channels (red/blue/green) in curve editing pop up. Then when you know how it looks, you can do same curves in your graphic tab.

Oh, now I got it Wink. IF you have riva tuner, there is panel for it as well. Don't know how it is in new drivers. Computer I left in home had gf6800, now I have crappy one with GF440mx Wink
Probably you have new panel from nvidia. Will check it later on friends laptop if he has color curves in new panel.

Im trying to find most realistic colors with changing curves. I did what I think is best I can do, but there is minus. Some textures are to "vivid", but if all groud textures could be desaturated, or you could find saturation parameters in game engine, you could have colors like this:
original pic posted in other topic (non edited).
after change (only curve changes and desaturated by 26%.

Im slightly bored today Tongue

Wow, my Corsair pic is travelling a lot Tongue

Well, on topic now, do you think the second image is more real? I'm not sure about that... Thinking in it.

I suppose it's all subjective isn't it.. What looks great to one may not be good to another..
I have to say I really do like the effect on the second picture!

Yeah, exactly what I said in my first post. It is different on every monitor, not even talking about different light room conditions and so on. Maybe it even isn't more real, couse it still looks far from real Wink, but in my eyes it is better, more depth, more light in scene, but it is only my preference. Im not telling anyone should use it, if anyone like it, then he could try. Just sharing my passion from first day of flying il2 in 2001, changing screenshots to look better Wink

Sorry for using your pic, it is very nice btw. Smile, i dont have game on my computer, so can only use someone else pics...
I have done latly for my friend, maybe it will be some help in testing color curves.

"opcja zastosuj do "wszystko"
