Map Modifying Discussion - History (Read Only)

Thanks for the offer. If it goes well I may come back to you later.
However, the first hurdle is to create a first draft of the coastline and principal rivers with a default texture. Then to superimpose the principal road and rail links.
I'll keep everything flat initially and add elevation if its all working ok.
Watch this space --- I may be some time!

S! all

is there anyway to make certin clouds different colours to make it like a might bombing run with flares that the mossies dropped??

Rough draft of coastline done.
All loads in FMB ok. So needs detail added now.
map_F overlays the old Singapore view in the distance at the moment but easy to change that.
New coastline has no default texture yet.
I need to work out how to introduce that. -- Any tips?

The rivers shown are from the old Singapore map. They will all change.

Damn that is impressive 8)

WOW. HEEEELLLLOO Eindhoven. I was actually looking if this area was feasible yesterday. What are you using to create your land masses?

Thats all done via the map_T.tga file. Specific RGB values correspond to specific textures given in load.ini.

Lowfighter: I tried to open map_R and I cant. I'm not sure map_f does anything, but I had created it along with the other files to try and get the 400x400 thing to work.

For the initial draft I am using the map on the previous page of this thread,
viewtopic.php?p=11600#11600
and tracing over it in Photoshop Elements. The base map is from Google maps. When I get onto detail I plan to use some 1:300000 roadmaps which I have which have got road, rail, forest and water areas. I can scan these into Photoshop and trace the details.

I will probably use the SRTM data for height mapping, but this maybe left to the end.

Meister to see if any problems come form map_F or map_R: use map_h, map_T and map_c and mapctgatable of say Kursk but pretend you're talking about...Sandoftime
Copy map_h, map_T and map_c and mapctgatable of Kursk and paste into : files/Maps/SandsfTime/ and add the corresponding
files/Maps/SandofTime/map_h.tga
files/Maps/SandofTime/map_T.tga
files/Maps/SandofTime/map_c.tga
files/Maps/SandofTime/map_c.tga_table
to filelist.txt.
If you get error when loading Sandftime it's because map_R or map_F which has not the right size. If you don't it's something else, needing to dig deeper. Test esential to see where the problem comes from!

To asheshouse: Your project is huge and "nuts" , so I think it'd really benefit it (the project) if you start an individual thread such that one can focus better on it's development! The slot and yours, seem to me the most important projects at the moment. I just wish you'll not get defeated by the huge amount of work needed...and the problems still unsolved.

Ash...I made this using the SRTM geoTIFF files, opening them with irfan view, then copying it to GIMP, selected the gray area by colour, removed it, filled in the rest of the land area black, resized it, inverted colours, then saved it. Not one brush stroke was given to it.

Wink

Thanks for that.
It seems a bit distorted though --- to wide.
Not on the same projection as French national maps, which will create later problems overlaying data.
Within 3Dem there is an option to change the projection but you dont seem to be able to save the result as a tga.
I think its important to adopt the national map standard projection to facilitate later work.

Is google maps distorted?

Also re:
Quote:Battle of France - Phase 1, May 1940
Dunkirk scenarios, including cross channel RAF support.
Dieppe Raid scenario
Ardennes - "Battle of the Bulge"
Maybe if I shifted it north a bit I would pick up Arnhem? - Operation Market Garden
-- but want to keep a good coverage around Sedan for the Meuse bridgehead area.

You can cheat things by shrinking the map a little bit. But reading your previous post I doubt you would do that Wink

Well I can confirm that map_F doesnt do anything. I replaced it in my Slot map with one from the NWGermany map and it loaded anyway.

That's god news about map_f!

Hi,
all this is amazing stuff, thanks to all other who have discovered and done so much!
I understand that map_c.tga tells the game where land, sea and rivers are. But this map is distorted, did someone find a way to shuffle a map_c.tga file to make it editable, and then reshuffle it in the correct game format?

I would like to work at a new desert map (Tobruk) but this is the bit where I am blocked now.

Thanks
Maraz

yes it will load, but the map_f actually does something: if you have mountains or higher grounds, that's in the map_f that you will find the paterns that command the game to put "summit" textures.

don't bother, i started yesterday on the murmansk map, it's easier to start a new hole map from scratch and srtm files than spending time on creating a whole new elevation for the map manually :x

is 150km west and east of tobruk enough? how much in the south do you want?
