little idea about airfields
#1

On most of the maps all airfields have the same texture around the runways, parking places etc. One can actually vary the texture, the simplest example: all grass airfields on a map with a certain texture, and all concrete airfields with a different texture. For example the texture around concrete airfields (read busy airfields)doesn't need to be a grass texture, I'm working a bit on Stalingrad and replaced the grass texture around Pitomnik airfield (it's a concrete airfield) with some airfield texture found on the New desert map, it fits quite well i think. There are 4 "slots" for pluging airfield textures
airfield0, arfield1, airfield2 and airfield3.
Usually only one is used, so in principle you can use the others too, need to repaint of course those airfields in the right color but that's pretty easy. I think it adds some flavour to maps...

That sounds really good, do you have any examples please..

In the shot bellow you see the Pitomnik airfield, of course the other grass airfields on the map are having grass texture (lol I just now see there's also the Gumrak grass airfield top right of the shot), but anyway:

I've been hearing where the germans built women's Ho-houses for the recreational purposes of especially good fliers right next to their airfields partners. They even had an orginization for it! Big Grin

I'm a wanten that included big time! 8)

but be carefull with that, because on the winter murmansk map, the "color" of the "airfield 0" section in the load.ini (r12g12b12) is actually the frozen rivers water on land! so,maybe, the airfield "load.ini-sections" are different from map to map?

you're right , from my experience every map has unique use of gray shades in map_T.tga

It might matter even on the same "summer" map, but that's when the original map_T is weird. For example with Guadalcanal there's a certain color which is painted on map_T but it's not assigned in load.ini, funny isn't it? Then the game fills that region maybe with lowland0, but when you assign it in the load.ini of course it'll appear in game as different.
But, I'll check what happens when loading winter stalingrad (which has no assignment for that airfield color), of course no matter what problem it's easy to remedy

Map is fly_zo Normandy, city in distance is London, base is let's say typical RAF base of that period.
I must admit that I would expect that experienced mission builder like you would spot unusual layout of the airbase, I don't remember that I saw anything similar in Il2 before.

This is still WIP so maybe I'll manage to do something more recognizable.

Hey, don't talk chinese to me!
All right, I see a development here i don't like, the secrecy in certain matters, I don't like it. I didn't start this map thing for that, I started it for sharing things. If it goes THIS direction further, I'm out of it. But I'll not be angry on you, it's human nature.
