Hyper OS...

an idea for those with vista but find it troublesome for il2.... or those with XP who are putting off the install of Vista

use both.... have one computer (Operating System) for il2...another for normal internet use.... another for other games.... another for each kid or the wife to use.... another for photo/video/movie making

and swap/clone/backup between them easily

Hang on, does this involve having multiple computers? That seems a little overkill just to play your favorite games and not have you kids get their grubby little hands on your keyboard. Plus, its probably out of most peoples finances.

actually it's just like having ten computers in one box..... because each partition which you install an OS in or copy from another OS...each is virtually a different computer... and it is very easy to swap from one to another...... they all use the same page file and stuff...just have Anti-virus software on the one/ones on the internet...etc.

Back when I first started using HOS it was. HOS 2002 was in the U.S. $300.00 range. However, it's not all that expensive now, especially considering just how much time and agrivation it can save you if/when you have OS problems. It's a lot easier to just restore a system in 10 mins or so, rather than doing a complete re-install and then installing all of the updates, and all the applications that you use.

It's also good for having good working systems. I have one system that ONLY had IL2 on it, so it's not bogged down with a lot of other applications and backround unk that tends to degradeperformance. I have another for gener use/surfing that is pretty cluttered, and not as 'zippy' as mu IL2 system, but for what I use it for it's 'good enough'. There is one for the Wife, and she can put anythig on it that she wants, and not clutter up MY system. I'm suprised that it's not bettern known and used, as it give your computer a lot more flexibility. About the only downside I can think of is that when MS releases updates, I have to do it on 8 systems instead of just one. But, I'll live with that.

The HOS comes in 2 versions. Geek which allows for up to 11 seperate OS, and SuperGeek which allows for 22. Geek is

Instead of PM I'll ask you a couple of questions...so that others can read the answers too....

How does HOS deal with external hard drives?

If you have one OS only for il2.... and fly on hyperlobby and off-line....would you have an Anti-Virus on that one or no need?

HOS 'should' see the external drives, but I'm not sure if you can put an OS on them.

Personally, I don't have AV on my IL2 OS. I guess that would depend on how 'safe' you want to feel.

To be honest, I don't have AV on ANY of my systems. I do use Windows Defender for ad/spyware, but that's all. I am careful with opening attachments in emails, and won't open one from someone I'm not expecting one from. I don't use outlook or outlook express for email either. Also, I'm not prone to going to the "Outer East Slobovian dwarf transvestite porn" sites either. Big Grin

Yes...I tried it yesterday....if you still have not used all your available partitions (11=geek, 22=supergeek)...then it will include an external drive and put its little 'Hyperos.ini' file in there too...
the only trouble is that tranfer of data via USB is so slow...

I've always thought that a clean install for il2 only wouldn't need an AV...and if you only go to Hyperlobby it should be pretty safe.

The only thing is that you would have to wait for a system scan to catch any virus in that drive....and not get a quick alert from a properly running watchful AV.

I've never used Outlook Express either, preferring to go through Messenger....... and there is no need to surf the web looking for porn...it is thrust in our face everywhere nowadays
