in-cockpit canopy reflections?
#1

i was wondering how hard would it be to make the in cockpit canopy reflections more pronounced?

this would add to the immersion greatly. as it is now these reflections are almost non existant
and it looks as theres no plexiglass between me and outside

Why does everybody post their discussive topics here?

Because its the mods discussion section? DISCUSSION

And yes, +1 for the canopy reflections. My glider flight sim, Condor, has reflections and the look sweeeeeeeet. Might be hard to do in this sim, though.

ive not had a go at this, but dont you control the the reflectivity with the '.mat' file ? but actually i think the reflectivity is about right as i dont think it would be any more reflective than it is at the moment - but mmm yes maybe a little would look cool Smile

I think that’s not possible, no reflection at all, they are indeed just alpha channels (transparent) of the textures. You can make it lees transparent or in some color, but usually looks even more silly.
Here is file for Hurricane for example, which one we see as “canopy reflection” so you can get that “blur” darker or in another color (like on hellcats), but that’s it. It looks like very oddly stained glass. As far as I have researched.

Also, little more filthier perspex would look cool, but . . .

the most ive managed is making it look muggy & dirty

But, can it be muggy and dirty at the corners of the “windows” (canopy glass) right to the canopy frame, and not on all glass surface? More near the canopy frames? Like dirt or stained. That would be cool.

I think I preferably would remove most of this effect.

I think it's complete nonsense that you are on disadvantage because your damn windows are so incredibly dirty (and yes, it looks dirty, not like reflections...), especially noticeable on some russian and japanese planes. And yes, even the Russians and Japs were able to actually wash a window...

A bit of the effect on the canopy frame edges on the other hand would surely be cool...

well, take for example the reflections in the B1-1 and B1-6 as you bank the plane, these are very pronounced yet not intrusive at all. they look very cool and definatelly add to the immerssion

in lockon these reflections are more elaborate and they do not at all obstruct the view.

i know these are diferent sims but in IL2 some planes just look like theres nothing there.

i bet in BoB the in-cockpit reflections are going to be like lockons, with the scratches and all.

BTW i dont like the dirt neder, its the reflections that are more visible as one twists and turns the plane.
some planes already have it but very dimmly

Be careful what you wish for here. Remember way back when, the 109K and F6F canopies? They had such bad reflections on the insides that they were almost unusable! Oleg finally made changes to them.

There is definately canopy reflection. Just fly the 190 on a sunny noon and bank it some. watch as reflections obstruct the view on the top of the canopy. There must be some value for the intensity of reflections. But on most planes I think they are about right.
