I have checked for starforce and it is not present on my system. I believe ubi has (thankfully) stopped using it

Oh, I think Ubi had never used StarForce....

Looking for SecuROM v7 ... thats (/was) the Protection of IL-2 1946

Edit-

Thought I had the problem solved but it turns out no. Swing and a miss Sad

I checked under device manager clicked on view, then show hidden devices and checked under non plug and play drivers. SecuROM v7 does not appear to be present on my machine. Nor does starforce or BoontyBox. I don't think any type copy protection is the problem.

One thing I have noticed is that when using DirectX mode instead of Open GL I get a wrapper log file which lists some errors. Below is a portion of the log file showing the errors...

IL2 DirectX8 Wrapper LogFile.
1C:Multimedia.Dev/Maddox.
=============================

*Error in Extensions.cpp line:18: Get unsupported extension proc address.
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:19: glMultiTexCoord3fARB
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:18: Get unsupported extension proc address.
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:19: glMultiTexCoord4fARB
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:18: Get unsupported extension proc address.
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:19: glClientActiveTextureARB
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:18: Get unsupported extension proc address.
*Error in Extensions.cpp line:19: wglGetExtensionsStringARB
EndD3D
*Error in Wgl.cpp line:39: Release Device.
*Error in Wgl.cpp line:51: Release DirectX.

EndLog.

For the entire log file have a look a this thread...

Hi All, and merry Christmas & Happy New year.

I'm new to this forum, but have been flying IL2 since 2003, and have never had problems with any add-ons or installed utilities. I have the same problem as AAA-Pappy, and have the same story to tell: I bought 1946 with 4.08 as a download two weeks ago (Direct 2 Drive, I believe), and I get the cyrillic screen that stops at 5% and crashes to desktop. I use 44.1 mhz as a default, and I can't find any evidence of Boonty, Starforce, or SecurRom. I use Open GL, so it doesn't seem that DirectX is the problem, Pappy. I might buy a DVD (which I preferred to do, but the site I bought it from was a little confusing and while trying to find the Dld+DVD version, I ended up with just the Dld version!) just so I can try out these mods.

Cheers!

Sorry guys, but the download version HAS a hidden copy protection. That is why the .exe data does not work. I have no idea what it is called, but UBI has one. So no one gives the game away to his/her buds.

Ya'll need to buy a DVD version. Never, ever buy from UBI online..... nuthin but problems. I know, I bought the Pe-2 addon and mucho problemo's on my system.

Yes I agree, the DVD is the only way to go I guess. Oh well lesson learned, I am going shopping today so will pick up the DVD.

Thanks again for all the help folks!

I have the same problem bought mine from Direct 2 Drive. No copy protection apparent. Watch out for next patch now I bet they put the kibbitz in it. I just wish this information was included with the main install so I didnt waste my time. Cry Cry Cry
