Yes, after the nutcases at the Zoo and other forums.... CRACK IT !!!! FOCK THEM !!!

If maybe they keep their mouths shut, I would say OK, we have ours and they theirs, but not anymore. All I want is revenge..... nothing but sweet revenge. I want to see "THEIR" game "RUINED".

That's right........I hold a grudge for a REAL LONG TIME !!!

And this is why what some of them say is true. Great example you set.

well i think 4.09 is not really any different in regards to modding - so if we make mods for 4.08 people can freely use them for 4.09 too Smile

I just think it would go a long way towards modding being acceptable if we left the onliners with a "secure" option, i.e. mods 4.08 and leave 4.09 alone. This is merely my opinion but I think relations would improve if this were done. A lot of people who we against the mods but not mean and persecutory about it were simply waiting for 4.09 so they could have that and we could go to town with 4.08. Modding 4.09 will make a lot of on the fence people very upset I think. While I'm not suggesting we should halt our efforts because some people are upset, I do think compromise is in order and this would be a good way to do it.

P.S. I feel like I'm channeling BC, lol.

I whole heartedly agree.

I am happy with my modded 4.08 version, and will not go beyond that.
For online,I will only use vanilla il2.

I was under the same impression as well, sadly I was wrong. Whats next then? Don't tell me....

I've come to rethink my reluctance to mod 4.09, if they want to be batshit insane the f'em. Just please lets not back off the fm/dm/wm ban, that I couldn't stomach.

VT-51_Razor Wrote:Well, jeeeeze Urufu, where was you sense of morality a month or two ago when 4.08 was the only version out there??? I don't see the difference at all. The non modded community has the ability to exclude a modded version from online play, and I assume that will not change. What's the problem??

These mods have breathed new life into a game that is decidedly long in the tooth. Oleg's next iteration is just around the corner and many will be flocking to SoW:BoB, leaving IL-2 in the dust. I, for one, will stick with this modded version of IL-2 for a long, long time due to the Pacific Theater of Operations, which SoW will be years in getting around to, if at all - thank you very much Northrup/Grumman.

All this hand wringing and nashing of theeth about the security of online play is just a bunch of hawg wash. It's like being at a big party full of Democrats and Republicans! All I can say is, "thank you AAA, for what you all have done, and I hope you continue the way you're going!"

All the talk about modding WM's and such, not to mention the FM/DM stuff has people worried and rightly so. Instead of being so fed up and hostile, maybe we should try to come up with something to help all of the community. I still feel not messing with 4.09 is the best solution for now.

Well in the servers I fly on,I can honestly say I have seen nothing different.
I have said my piece anyway. I will still use a modded version of 4.08 offline, and unmodded 4.09 online.Others will do what they want and its certainly not my place to tell them anything different.

I highly doubt anyone did anything to you personally to warrant your words.

On that same note, while I am happy with all the fabulous work thats being done here I'm very disappointed that AAA did not leave 4.09 alone. Very bad form IMO. 4.08 has everything you need and I believe a lot of grief could've been saved by sticking to that version. I truly hope the non beta version has new measures to ensure security and that the admin here will stand some sort of ground to enforce 4.09 staying clean instead of giving in. With the way things have gone today it just shows that no one cares about anyone in the community outside of this tiny, but influential site.

And to remove the offending 4.09 beta - what is it we do?

Well, they may not have if there wasn't a huge billboard showcasing that 4.09 is moddable and that the site supports it, complete with instructions, so....

I really don't fathom the necessity of going past 4.08, especially since any of the features added can all be done right here.

MrJolly Wrote:what im wondering is just how many cases of people cheating have been seen - because we run AAA server & have only 1 definiate case of someone cheating

besides we would like all our great mods to be 4.09 compatible

It's not necessarily about how many actually people ARE cheating. It's about supporting the community as a whole, everyone. There is NO doubt that 4.08 being modded upset a lot of people. Why do the mods have to be 4.09 compatible? There's only two new things really in 4.09. Maps and viewable distance. Those can be implemented here in 4.08 unless I read some other posts wrong. I know the maps can be done. Why not give those that are concerned some piece of mind? Going into 4.09 for two very small items (map and viewing distance) is selfish IMO. This is the one chance anyone has to close the gap in the community somewhat. I assume most of us are adults and hope we can act accordingly.

Well, this site never suported FM/DM changes, and They said: Doesn't matters, because it's so easy to change them. A 4 years child can do, so you are cheaters. They'll say the same about modding new versions....and doesn't matters if these modded versions exist or not.

Well, I've definitely seen some things that are different on the servers I fly on. Like, TBFs flying off of carriers, B-17s and B-24s making bombing runs on Pacific islands, A5M Clauds escorting Sallys on bombing missions over the Burma road and Hawk 75s intercepting them! I have even seen a PBY (PBN) making a bombing run on a ship in the Pacific!!

I just don't understand what the difference is between 4.08 and 4.09 as far as our being able to continue on seeing those wonderful things. I don't understand why this is so controversial - more so than 4.08. It doesn't make any sense. Online cheating isn't going to be any more or less prevelent with the modding of 4.09 than it was with 4.08. Which brings to mind the question, where was all that cheating going on?!!! I've not read or heard about anything like the concerns that some have voiced against modding the game.

As long as the servers can exclude a modded version from joining, what is the problem? The beauty is, an un-modded version can join a mod friendly server. Why is there all this talk of splitting the community? If we end up with a modded version of 4.09 that is not compatible with an un-modded version, then THAT will be more devisive than anything! There are many swquads out there that have people in them with modded versions and people with straight versions. They are able to fly together without a problem. That will change if anything is done with 4.09 other than what was done to 4.08. It will drastically split the community - more so than it is now.

I agree, there really is no point to not modding 4.09, the problem lies in that somewhere along the line some of us modders and the anti-modders got it in our heads that the non-modders will have 4.09 to themselves. Thinking back on it I don't really know where this idea came from. The other problem is that it is not true that non-mod servers can keep mods out. Crt=2 does not work in most cases, and this is actually a problem, they should be able to keep mods out if they wish to. Unfortunately, with attitudes the way they are even if all the mods at AAA were redone to prevent passing crt=2 it still wouldn't help to ease the tentions, none of the anti-modders would beleive it or trust it. And it is true that AAA is not the end-all be-all of modding, we're just to blame, lol.

I believe that in time, not too long a time, all of this division will be a thing of the past.
I hope I'm right.

Most of the hard liners biggest concern has been directed toward the online cheaters.
There have been cheaters flying online from what I can gather for several years now.Hopefully not that many. Then there are the goofs that somehow find a way to ruin good missions online, mostly because they have no sense of history whatsoever, and are there for laughs at everyone elses expense.
I've only ventured online a few times and my personal experience was not great with IL2.
The only time I really enjoyed flying online was when Warbirds was in all it's glory before EAW.
That was a lot of fun.Well organized.
I have been a member of SimHQ ever since 2001.
There are a lot of good folks over there. The forum is organized, run fairly and I understand "Why" they have taken the position that exists at present.
1. They haven't wanted to officially support anything that would be illegal, and as Oleg is a member over there and has been for years, they havent' wanted to hurt his feelings for sure.
Dont forget that if it hadn't been for his vision of creating this Sim way back when we were all flying EAW then we all certainly wouldn't be here today.
I'm sure he hasn't been happy, however I do believe that he is a realist and is not vindictive.
If he was, we would all would have known about it by now for sure.

I really have enjoyed using these mods.I feel like others that they have pumped new life into this great sim.
Some feel that Oleg has let them down and doesnt care....Thats "Bull". On the contrary,I do not believe that at all.
I believe for Oleg and his team,it's almost the same as a recording artist or a band .
You spend a lot of time writing, rehearsal, pre recording re arranging, more rehearsal, and by the time you spend the six weeks or so in the studio, recording, then mixing, then Mastering, and it's finally done.....If your creative and productive as a writer player, you have already moved on.
I'm going through that process right now in my own life, however you still have to get out there and play for everyone who has never heard this music for It's all new to them.

Oleg has given us about a half a dozen free patches and fix's along the way .He just isn't looking back anymore. He has other more important creative stuff to look after.Thats reality and creative movement.
Make no mistake about it......
4.09 was a gift to all of us from him and his team. He didn't have to do this at all. Did he?

I believe the hard feelings and the divisions will be put aside soon.
There are many folks who are looking over here, some already are here with New User Names LOL Big Grin Others dont feel threatened of being scolded.
I think everything is going to be just fine, and the Sims longevity will be a fact.
Hey,look whats happened with EAW.
I think there should be no whining,or bad feelings. It is totally counter productive and serves no purpose.
We are all a lucky bunch. Big Grin
