WOW.....

at the ZOO, the standard line has always been (that I've seen anyway) that the Spitfire XIV couldn't be added because the guy who modeled it never finished. I wonder what the real reason was?

I'll give you my wife and first-born for this one.....

Oleg left it out because the whining from the Blues regarding it's performance would have crashed the internet.

OR

that there would be no point because it would easily beat any other plane, especially the russian ones lol

That is so nice!!! Why did we not get this and the other "lost" aircraft such as the Meteor.

I would have much preferred this to the semi-fictional types we got.

If this could be salvaged from its creator then it would be a real coup for the mod-makers.

Here's hoping!

The Spitfire XIV was created by Fievel. As you can see it was completed but never added to IL2 by oleg...

A guy called Harti (who made the P40B we use in game) submitted a completed Hawker Typhoon Mark IB Late to oleg as well but once again was never added...

If we could contact these two and get their completed models to add... How cool would that be....

Really? I knew that Alex Voicu made a Typhoon, but I didnt know that someone else had done so. You have any info or pics of it?

There's a little more to it than that.

IIRC Harti's model was never good enough to be accepted by Maddox Games, though it was submitted several times. I think it had a lot of errors that Harti just didn't know how to correct, through lack of experience. Saqson was pretty scathing about it.

A lot of models were lost this way - the practice of allowing unproven modellers to reserve aircraft for many years while they slowly learned the necessary techniques worked in only a handful of cases. All the third party aircraft were made by about 10 people in total, so very few volunteers actually stayed the course.

Fievel had a good track record (I believe he made the Spit VIII) but he just disappeared. The Spit XIV external model was finished but not the LODs, damage model, shadow model and cockpit - so there was a long way to go.

Same happened with Biggs and his Spit Mk22 - the external looked great but he ran out of steam.

The external model is the fun bit, but also the easy bit. The grind comes in making the LODs, textures and all the rest. Lots of external models were built and displayed - but they only represent about 25% of the work necessary to complete a model for IL2.

If thats the ammount of work for an aircraft now. Imagine how restricted the selection will be in BoB. Confusedhock:

Then you can see how they may of missed out a few realistic parts of planes, Gun sights, and the correct sounds. Cause they gutta spend that amount of time per aircraft.

That's very sad Username, but thanks for explaining it so clearly. I've always felt very annoyed that the really important types of aircraft like the Typhoon and B26 were never included in the game but now I can see the reasons. If only these projects could have been passed on to someone else rather than be discarded. Seems at this stage of the game it's too late.

Harti also did a B29 with a Cockpit, internal views and gunner positions.
