You get Russian briefings back to English eleting & renaming AFAIK (you may want to get a batch renaming app) - this mod will switch a Russian GUI (menus, buttosns, pop-up messages, etc)
back to English but it won't fix the Russian briefings for dynamic campaigns.
To only switch to English but keeping the default 46 colors etc, only install the part of the mod that's in the files\i18n folder and dump the files\gui folder (keep or dump lines in filelist.ext accordingly)
As the game now reads the user interface from a bunch 'regular' files rather than compressed stuff from .sfs files, you can edit your GUI pretty much as you want: I hated the new splash screen provided with this mod, so I took a screenshot of the Russian splash screen (I find it pretty cool), saved it as .tga and replaced \Files\gui\background.tga with it. Voila. Cool Russian splashscreen back BTW I also found a "special" background by Fly_zo in my files folder... nice one! (but I think I'll keep using the B/W Dora from the DE singles folder).
Something I haven't done yet (I probably will) is to change the text in the interface editing /media/disk/il2/Files/i18n/gui_ru.properties. For instance the message "Do you really want to quit?" could be changed to "Do you find this message annoying?"
Using the same technique, you can switch a country that you never use for another one (you 'll need replacement ranks, icons, awards etc)
For instance, many people have Flying Tigers campaigns installed in the "None" folder (the F.T. were American planes in Chinese markings) you can edit /Files/i18n/country_ru.properties and change the line: 'nn None' to 'nn China'
That works for any country, not only for "none" Wartning: I haven't tried to do that, I'm just reasoning that it "should" work -and it sounds like it has the potential to make a mess, expecially if you use mission generators (both single and campaign) including the default ones.
(I think I'll re-register as "themodmodder"... or quit blabbering about how to screw up other people's mods)
