To All Sound Modders out there...HELP!
#1

Pedropan's thread on this problem he and I are having wasn't answered, so I want to appeal specifically to you guys directly.

After installing SM0.93 over Mod 4.09beta all the sounds inside and outside are okay on most aircraft.

However after installing AAA_MOD_PACK or the Bomber Pack, not sure which, all sounds except the propeller sound, are missing in the cockpit just when revs of the engine exceed about 2600rpm, or sometimes not at all. This happens on the following a/c, so far:

Avenger
A-20
B-25
F4F
F4U
F6F

(Pedropan didn't have it on the P47, but that one works for me.)

I fly mostly in PTO, so not having sound on these planes is especially distressing. Cry

Nobody was offering any kind of clue, so I figured I might as well try to figure out how the planes are tied to the sounds. But I don't know enough to figure that out. It's my understanding that the filelist--now the wrapper dll--tells the game what files to pull on loading--planes, sound, maps. But I don't have the foggiest notion how the engine sounds are tied to a prticulr plane/cockpit. I was going to try to simply swap the .wav file currently associated with these a/c and hope that would work...but I'm clueless where to start. Maybe it's just a simple thing I forgot to do, but all other mods I have work great, the planes are in the filelist, etc., etc.

Is there anyone out there that can point me in the right direction to fix/modify this myself? I so thoroughly enjoy these fantastic mods you've all made, and with Skinkmeister's Slot map, this sim is almost the perfect dream come true, but not until I can hear it properly.

Thx, and I'll gladly have your next baby (if it's OK with my wife) if you can help me out.

Wait, my attorney says I can't have your baby without a lot of legal and medical hassles. But I can give you my undying gratitude!

Pedropan and Hot Space,

I will tell you, but then I will have to kill you. Did you download SM.093 directly to IL2 4.09b without first dlding SM.09? That's what renmik and I did and that apparently was the problem. Try downloading SM.09 directly over SM.093. That worked for me, but although it was there, the A20 sound was still a little "off," (all others were OK) so I dlded SM.092 over SM.09 and all was well. But feeling greedy, I then put SM .093 over that, and I was back to no joy--no sounds in those 5 or 6 aircraft. I ended up just uninstalling IL2 completely--I needed to clean it up any way because I lost track of which files were which, which Mods and mod versions I had, etc. So last night I did the re-install, and patched only up to 4.08, downlaoded SM.09 and then SM .092 on top of that, and all is well right now. Tonight I'll install 4.09b and maybe/maybe not try SM.093. I'll report back.

The bottom line seems to be that SM.09 should be dlded first.

Does anyone know what changes SM.093 has over .09 and .092? Just different sounds??? If that's the case, I'll just stay with .092.

Cheers, mates!

You can't kill me....I mean what would my knees do

Well I've spent all afternoon m8 playing with .090, .092 & .093 and re-installed the beta 4.09 patch taking things out, adding them etc......and nothing boo-hoo, hiss-hiss Sad

I did the same as you did originally with .093 over 4.09b just to see what it was like as I wasn't a fan of .092 which was my bad as I was always happy with .090

Hot Space, sorry to hear that, I KNOW that frustration.

FWIW, when I uninstalled 1946 prior to re-install, I completely eliminated the remnant ubisoft\1946 Sturmovik folder from my drive, because the uninstall leaves alot of files and things. I usualyy don't do that, and it probably isn't related, but to me computers in general, and this game in particular, is just smoke, mirrors, luck, magic and devine intervention, so you never know! I didn't mention this above, but actually after I succesfully got it to work, and after I did the big re-install of 1946, I couldn't even get the game to run. At all. Click on the desktop icon/start up through the CD drive, nada. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice, nada. Then I checked the conf.ini, because after each install before I ran the game, I always changed resolution to 1680 x 1050 for my monitor, and got rid of the intro, and a few other routine things. Well, about 2:00 AM last night, way past bed time for a working day, I realized all along I had been entering 1600 instaed of 1680.

So maybe you are doing some silly thing too?

And now I'm poised to go from a working 4.08/.092 to 4.09b/.093......do I dare????? Is it worth it? Or should I try 4.09b and stay with .092?

Sort of a Lady and the Tiger situation, don't you think?

LOL, Hot Space, you got that right! I f*cjked around again--sometimes it worked, sometimes not, but finally I think I'm on .092 (I never touched .093. What seemed to bring everyting togather was when I dlded the Mod Switcher. When I switched between 4.08 and 4.09, things now work. It must somehow read the mod files that work with the particular IL2 version (somewhere one of the Mod Gods is chuckling, I'm sure), anyway things are okay.

Now, why do some of the new flyables, particularly the Avenger, not let me choose it to fly in the FMB, but does in the QMB? Cry

All sounds are back... Big Grin

1. Step: Complet uninstall IL-2
2. Install new 4.07
3. Patch 4.08m
4. Install SounMod_09
5. Install AAA_Mod_Pack (not overwrite file F4ADD160BC116D06)
6. Install Patch 4.09bMOD
7. Install QMB_Plus
8. Install other new planes and our modification

All works fine and sounds are excellent... Big Grin

Thanks all... 8)

For me folks I found that if I used Dive Sound .093 the sound returned............strange really as most if not all is .90 and I only used it as a last chance saloon

Glad you got it working again Mark. For me, the dive sounds mod caused me to lose many engine sounds. I have no idea what makes it all work anymore it's all duct-tape and chewing gum holding it together.
