B-25 Strafer

Hi all.
I have finished beta version of first Strafer. It's early strafer - B-25C(D) for New Guinea. It was made from B-25J and replace it in my game. Therefore, my Strafer uses B-25J loadout. Numbers of crew (6) and number of movied guns (7) were retained from B-25J, but all were corrected by me. Note a new tail gunner.

Strafer works good, all gunners do their work very well :lol:

Next time i'll add 4 nose guns. After that, we'll have a good authentic early Strafer - B-25C(D)


PROBLEMS (I need help):
We need to:
1) erase nose cockpit and nose turret
2) erase side gunner positions (only cockpits)
3) erase tail gunner position (only cockpit)
4) correct upper gunner position (only cockpit)

Guys, I work only with 3D-models and I never worked with cockpits. Please, do it! Smile

Also we need a good generic skin for it (345th BG parrot, for example)

The work looks great but unfortunatly due to other complications that may arise I don't think we can do this kind of thing on AAA due to weapons modding. I.E. weapons modding is against the site rules. Unfortunate in this case as a B-25 Strafer would be very nice to have.

Guys, it's reworked B-25J, which looks like B-25C/D. No weapons and FM-DM changes. It can't carry more guns than default B-25J in any case! Big Grin

Leigh, I think you'll find that its the moving of the gunner's backwards... There arent any new/extra guns, just a redone 3d model.

Wonder if any "fake" guns could stick out the nose instead. Honestly, the way the game deals with ground targets we don't really need more guns. I have a huge interest in the 5th AF and the starfers in particular, and the game treats all of them abysmally.

1. The ground DMs are too simple. Killed, not killed.

2. The ship DMs are pretty terrible. They should be at least as complex as a bomber in game. The 50 cals were to SUPPRESS the AAA, not destroy it outright (same for land attack).

3. The AI can't fly them right anyway.
3a. They need to fly at minimum alt (that means the crew chief has to pull palm fronds out of the engine when you RTB)
3b. They need to open fire with the MGs at extreme range, and mash the trigger down (kicking the rudder, perhaps) until they leave, run out of ammo, or the gun fails.
3c. They need to drop their bombs, then LEAVE. ONE PASS.

What would happen with more guns is that they'd loiter and strafe until the whol target was wrecked, or they all got killed Big Grin

In short, add fake guns to the front, and it'll look cool, but we have enough guns to kill more than our fair share of stuff anyway!

Guys, I can't add more guns in nose section (I can add only fake guns) Sad. My Strafer has only 1 gun now (like B-25C). If you know how we can do it, plese help me... I have tried to use A-20 fuselage as hidden internal nose section (Nose_D0.msh) and as hidden internal fuselage section (CF_D0.msh), but without any result Sad

Also i don't know to delete nose gunner (i can only move it).

And please correct cockpits (see my 1'st message).

But in all other respect Strafer hasn't problems! it's very agressive! Big Grin

Tater, your comments here and on the Slot map about the AI is spot on, and frustrating as hell that those problems can't be fixed. At least I haven't seen anyone with the skill to make those needed changes speak up much about them on other threads where you discussed it. Are they considered FM/DM mods and thus off limits? If only tio get AI to fy lower, and in proper formation would help alot. Miserable AI abilities was one reason I completely left the game 18 months ago. It was the combo 4.09 and these mods that got me excited again about IL2. I hope the community can make progress on fixing these things. Lal-Rones destruction mod and Fly's mods to that helps out some in regard to destroying things properly.

MAHA, why not keep the 25J's cheek guns? I know the D had cheek gunpacks that look like the G in game, not the H/J, but close enough. Then you'd have 4 forward guns anyway.

Alternately make the D by starting with the G?

spud, our G hasn't got cheek guns...

I use B-25C central section, and it hasn't got cheek guns. I can use B-25J central section, but some of details will be wrong (wires, blisters)

But now I know one way to add 4 guns - i use smaller B-25J central section inside standart B-25C central section. But i'm think it's not the best way.
