I have noticed in a lot of the ww2 videos that 50 cal tracers was white phosphorous and not red. Also some of them leaved a smoke trail. So i wuld like to ask any moderator with spare time on his hands to do something about it coz i dont know a first thing abt moding a game.I dont know is this the wright forum to post this, but here it is any way.Btw u guys do a great work.Cheers Tongue

Remember that each country had its own system for producing munitions and that all tracer rounds are not the same colour! That still extends to the present day.. All the tracer colours used in game are pretty historical for colour I believe..

In most of the color gun camera footage that I have seen, the tracers appear to be reddish orange. But that's on film that was probably 30+ years old before it was digitally saved, so who knows what the tracer colors actually looked like from the pilot's seat? I tend to believe they were closer to red, myself.

There's already smoke trails for the 109's... if one was adament about wanting smoke, wouldn't it be a simple matter of putting those accross to the .50's...?

Yes, we need smoke trails on the 50.'s, Good example is on Pearl Harbour. Maybe we can switch the visual effect from the 109's Mg rounds to the 50.'s?

no tutorials .... we are still discovering and learning here ....
if you like to give it a try .... do as we have done , extract (tim's sfs extractor) all sfs files in the same folder ( you should get right file structure that way) try to find where those effects are ( which files and attributes...) see how they work for Bf109 and try to apply same thing to 50call .... it's the only way (for now)

hope you will give it a try ......

cheers

Not too bother'd about tracer colour but I would like to be able to dim them down a bit, like when your seeing them from a distance.....would that be possible....?

it would have nothing to do with your installation .... extracted (sfs) folder can be anywhere on your HDD ( not in the game folder ) .... further manage your attempts like mod ( with new wrapper is pretty simple to disable one - if putting "-" as prefix to folder name isn't too much to ask) .

anyway, you have stated that you would like to give it a try ..... i'm sure you can find zillion reasons why not to do it .

I have an original 4.08 install, one backup 4.08, one 4.08 modded and one 4.09Beta modded. It takes up a bit of extra HD space, but what does a harddrive cost these days?

Smoke trails on the .50 calibre would be a very nice, and immersive addition.

Although I don't mod, can someone who does, explain why the 109 bullet smoke tracers, would be difficult to get ported across the the .50 cal, please?

Cheers, SM
