No External Views mod request
#1

Is there anyway to make a patch for 4.09 that would allow locking out of external views EXCEPT when a player is not flying (dead, landed, hasn't taken off, etc.)? It would be great to be able to restrict players to internal views only, but when they are out of action to allow them to view the rest of the action using external views of friendly and hostal a/c.

When a major battle is raging and you are unlucky enough to get killled early it's really boring to have to sit and wait for everyone else to finish...unless you can follow the action.

Any hope for such a patch?

Maybe tie it into whatever mechanism is used for the refly button, i.e. when you are stationary on the ground you can go external?

thats why there are difficulty settings, go to the server that locks the cockpit. its that simple

I think, GK, you'll find he means that the cockpit only views are enabled, but once you die, you will have the external view's suddenly enabled... (so you can't have externals whilst you're flying, but once you croak, you get to watch the fun Smile)

Good Idea, and what about being able to see other players's first person view (Cockpit)? Just like in CS.

That could result in peeking. on locked cockpit servers.

The ability to see into there cockpit would be nice tho.

"once you croak, you get to watch the fun"...and tell your pals where the other guys are. Seriously bad idea!
Almost as bad is to "see other players's first person view" as this is like giving your pal another set of eyes..."watch out mate there's 2 coming in at 4 o'clock high"

Here we are surrounded by zoobie-esque paranoia, as a result di-allowed to discuss fixing really important stuff like the over-flapped 3 switch flight model or the outta whack weapons loadouts and people ask to screw with one of the few rock solid "real" features of the game...full switch
Sorry to say dead = dead, if you can't deal with that don't fly full switch, it's that easy.

I asked Oleg for this a long time ago, only I asked that, external view be allowed only when in contact with the ground. He never responded Sad I think that, for carrier operations in particular, this would be a very valuable MOD for full real coops. I would go so far as to suggest that the outside view be restricted to only your own plane too. This would allow you to get outside of your plane to taxi, but keep you from seeing any other planes in the mission, precluding one from warning his buddies of the position of enemy aircraft, which is the primary reason for the no-outside views in full real coops and servers in the first place.

When you bail out in a full real mission, you get an outside view of your plane only. Maybe that is the key to this?

We play for fun but I'd like to limit views to internal unless you get killed. Then, rather than sitting around for a long time waitinf for the scenerio to end at least you could watch the action.

On another thread...where would I post a request for separate bombadire (sp?) in bombers so the pilot can fly while a second person operates the bomb site?

In any online war you will be grilled in short order by the host if you haven't disconnected pretty smart after being shot down.. and for good reason. There are unsavoury people out there who will hang around on teamspeak and relay info to other team mates, that will directly influence the ongoing battle..
Unfortunately not everyone is honourable and just wants to sight see..

I think it is already done by a French Modder

I host the game for friends. It's not an open server and we play vs. the computer mainly. We use teamspeak to talk after we're dead and we really don't care. We're just out to have a little fun, and its no fun if you can't watch others. But I really want to be able to keep the clients in their planes until they're done flying...To encourage realistic flying habits and to keep them immersed in the sim. longer.

So, a way to lock views to internal unless you're on the ground (or dead) would be a great addition to the options a server has.

Also, it would be nice to set ship, vehicle, and plane damages to something other than 100% at the start of a mission to reflect on going conflicts. IE day two of trying to sink that enemy carrier.
