MOD Management/Installation 101...a query
#1

I've just stepped into this MOD'ing arena recently and having a bit of difficulty getting up to speed before I start trying to enable MODs. There seems to be some confusing, perhaps conflicting, guidance in separate threads. Could someone please help an old man understand how to get started, with a step-by-step instruction?

Here's what I've found so far, which has me a bit confused:

In this thread, it says emphatically to first install wrapper.exe and then Eng_Sound_mod_Version_XXX:
(The link is inoperative)

However, in this thread, it says to first download/install Eng_Sound_mod OR MOD_Activator, and then install wrapper.exe
(The link is inoperative)

In this thread, it seems to say that the MOD Activator is essential to install MODs, but that the basic Eng_Sound_Mod must be installed before MOD Activator:
(The link is inoperative)

The relationship of the "MOD Activator" to the "wrapper.exe" doesn't seem to be addressed in the MOD Activator Sticky thread, but in the "wrapper" Sticky thread it says to install MOD Activator first...

Separately, no one seems to be able to explain the difference (advantage or necessity) between using "wrapper" versus using the very simple and user-friendly "JonesSoft Generic Mod Enabler" application (JSGME) . This thread (The link is inoperative), for example, about a 'sound mod switcher' seems to imply that JSGME can handle/manage every/all MODS, including the basic Eng_Sound_Mod(s); it makes no mention of either the MOD Activator or the "wrapper" application.

Then, however, in this thread in the IL2 MAPMODs Forum, it posts amazingly complex instructions which seems to 'merge' JSGME with..uhh..the "New" wrapper: (The link is inoperative)

I've seen scores upon scores of posts from people who've experienced difficulties getting their desired Mods installed/working. I'm trying to avoid, in advance, as many missteps as I can. There has to be a simper way of laying it all out for the True Newbie/Beginner...right?

Thanks for any help/clarification that can be offerred.

Well, can't clear up all the technical details, but I can tell you what order I did (and everything works flawlessly):

#1) Eng_Sound_mod_Version_XXX
#2) Mod Activator
...and recently:
#3) New wrapper

I used the same sequence as redwolf, and have had no issues yet...
No, in fact, I lie...I have never installed the MOD enabler....just the new wrapper...
all works fine....
I guess thats the point Doolittle is trying to clarify here, I'm not even sure myself now what the definitive MOD steps are now...it IS a little confusing for newcomers... :?

Yes it is confusing! With the jones soft I load sounds.xxx then the AAA all planes mod then the trackir 6dof mod then the wrapper. If I dont do it that way the mods work but the 6DOF wont. None of the updates work at all.IE: mirror on the f6f. I can load it or any of them load the wrapper last still wont work. very confusing I think Ive re-loaded IL2 (fresh copy)4 times trying to make it all work.

I may just load it all into the root directory and make a second copy on my HD un-modded
But I must say, the people in here have been most helpful with us new guys

I installed the basic sound mod first and then the wrapper. Then I put all plane modes into the MODS folder that was created by the wrapper and everything works flawlessly.. Even those plane modes that were created before the wrapper (you simply make a new folder in the MODS folder and name it after the mod and then manually copy the mod in question into the newly created folder and you are ready to go). It's very simple..
