Moving troops?

Would it be possible to re-skin a truck, for instance, to look like a dozen or so soldiers? I'm not sure the lack of animation would bother most folks

i support that idea, a huge BUMP!!

As I think about it...a skin can't do it of course

needs to be a block of soldiers from "Objects" that simply moves on it's own

That would be nice! If those little soldiers who jump from trucks when under fire could be extracted and made independent "vehicles" .

Chances are that it is possible to make "vehicle" which will be made out of soldier objects put together as a group.

Making animation of them walking is another thing, I don't know how to do that , I never tried that and i don't plan to do it because i have too many other things to do.

Well even without animation i think it can be pretty cool, especially if the mission builder takes care not to parade the soldiers 3 meters away from the pilot hehe.

Well I think a lack of animation is not a deal-breaker here. What's more important is that a group of troops can be made to move from point A to point B. I had not even dreamed that animation was needed. The objects that represent soldiers are very bland and boring anyhow...but they do hold rifles.

Perhaps a few different type of troops:

marching with rifles- the "obect" that has a soldier with rifle on shoulder, standing. 12 soldiers in double file

skirmishing- the objects that show soldiers with rifles aimed, standing and crouching. 12 soldiers spread out, fighting

large groups (say 25-30), which are a combo of both above- soldiers near the center are standing with rifles slun over shoulders, on leading edge of group, with rifles aimed

When the "troops" object is destroyed, a small crater could be left behind

So now, a troop suppression mission actually has a target, and battles can consist of more than tanks and trucks milling about

I'm not seeing a problem with no animation

The destroyed state could have prone inf assuming there are any such models. Or it could be a cloned crater where the crater is erased and replaced with a texture of prone looking guys (dead, looking for a hole to crawl into, whatever) drawn in.

The marching column can have a speed of 3mph or something, and the skirmish line might be very much slower. The idea would be to put it on the map and have it advance, right?

Can such a unit be cloned from some vehicle with a single .30 cal MG so it will shoot? You'd make it hard to damage to represent the dispersal of the troops, and the difficulty in totally routing them.

Cool idea, BTW!

Tried to make it and it works, of course lot of work will be required to make it really good but most important is that it's possible to do something like that.

If you had a column of marchint troops, could it be cloned from a truck such that when strafed some would run away and scatter like they do from trucks?

Even before registering here I did the following: took a truck and made it invisible. Then placed a dozen of them moving under fire and watch the soldiers jumping and running away from the invisible trucks. I stoped mainly because I didn't know how to increase the invulnerability of the trucks, the trucks were destroyed too fast. Even now I don't know how to make them less vulnerable, that panzer thickness change didn't work if I remember welll. . Hm tried also another thing with negative result and that one would have been great, really great. I was thinking that if I add in technics.ini that line present with trucks "Soldiers 2" to a tank entry then I'll see soldiers jumping from the tank if under fire. But it didn't work, no soldiers. Noob.

Maybe change stuff like:

PanzerType Car
PanzerSubtype 2
PanzerBodyFront 0.002

The type and sub type of armor (panzer) could change. Up it to whatever type a tank is and it might ignore rifle caliber stuff altogether.
