When an aircraft is on fire...
#1

So one of the few things that bothers me about Il-2 is the way it presents smoke and fire from time to time.

If you look at some colour period guncamera sequences, the aircraft on fire often have a small fire on
the side of the engine, or a continuous flame.

Failing to make a 'small' fire for damaged aircraft, is it possible to blur the current one so that it's not seperated in 'balls' ?

I'd like it if pilots in planes afire would bail out Wink

Did you tick the little box that has ''parachute'' next to it?

Heheh. I meant sooner than they do. I torch many bombers and watch them flyoff and no one jumps until it explodes.

I dunno about that, but in my opinion the percentage of surviving a shoot down seems quite realistic.

Real pilots did not always bail out when their crate was on fire. I was reading about an experience Ken Walsh had while on his tour with the 124 in the Solomons. During the escort mission of 12 August, 1943, his F4U-1 was hit badly and the cockpit was filled with smoke and the Corsair was on fire. He was over enemy territory and knew that bailing out meant capture. He opened the canopy at somewhere between 300 and 400 KIAS and the rush of air cleared the cockpit of smoke and blew out the fire. He pulled up under a B-24 for protection and flew back to the emergency strip at Segi. He had to lower the gear by using the CO2 bottles and crashed upon landing, but he avoided capture.

True, but right now it's pretty all or nothing. I have never seen a G4M on fire as the only damage have the crew bail. Never. The plane flies til it explodes, THEN they bail.

The game seems to have some critical damage at which point the crew bails out. Fire is NEVER critical damage in this respect, though fire in il-2 does progress and cause such damage.

So I'm ALL for variability, I just never see any WRT fire.

The F4U example... I've managed to put out fires sometimes, but the clock is ticking and the plane still seems to explode after some period of time.

The AI pilots pilots bail out of planes (2 engines or more only) when one engine is on fire , engines on fire arent a problem ,they just destroy the engine after some time ,fuel tanks on fire are the problem and AI almost always bail after the plane lose a wing

Btw can you make like in CFS2 to get your wing tanks onfire and be able to blow your fuel tank with out destroying the plane? i've seen many WWII guncameras footige and there is a quite a bang under the cocpit or bihind it but the plane still flys on inertia.
