Opening canopy sound
#16

I think I have identified the sound or sounds that need to be changed.

Take your sound and rename it to door_10.wav, door_15.wav and door_22.wav

Then pop these fellas in your files/samples directory (you won't be overwriting anything).

Then append the pathnames to your filelist.txt file i.e. sample/door_10.wav etc

And try it out.

I'm thinking there are 3 different possible sounds supported, maybe one sound for Japanese planes, one for US and another for something else.

It should then be a process of elimination to find out which of these sounds corresponds to the aircraft you want to change. That is, delete the entries one at a time from the filelist.txt and check the game to see if the sound reverted to its original state.

Then you will know more than I do about it!

Hope that helps.

Create folder in MODS directory called Canopy_sound.

Create a folder within that folder called samples.

Copy the files into it (with the correct names). Don't update filelist.txt

Done.

Got it. Sounds great. I may try to shorten it a bit because it runs somewhat longer than the graphic of the canopy opening and closing. Thanks everyone, this way truly a team effort.

OK Dixiecapt, here you go.

http://files.filefront.com/canopy+sound ... einfo.html

This is the canopy opening and closing sound originally posted by Paulo Hirth that started this thread. Dixiecapt found and extracted the originals and Huxley_S figured out the names and how to apply them. I just shortened them to match the graphics of the different canopy opening and closing speeds.

There are 3 files that vary in lenght: door_10.wav, door_15.wav, and door_22.wav.

The short (fast opening) door_10.wav is used by the F2A, F4U, P-40, Seafire and D3A.

The medium lenght door_15.wav is used by the F6F, A6M, and Ki-43.

The long (slow opening) door_22.wav is used by the F4F and SBD.

If you are using the new wrapper (and by now you really should) just unzip this to your Mods folder, or unzip and copy canopy_sound to, your Mods folder.

As with all sound mods, you may need to adjust the volumes for your system and personal taste.

you say in the mods folder, but don't they need to go into File/Samples :?:

Won't they also need a corresponding preset file or something, or for these to be added to the File List :?:

I'm at work so I haven't thrown them in the game, but just placing them in the folder in il2 called MODS is much different than any other sound installation I've done.

Edit: Thanks for the help by the way! It was really neat to watch everyone pull together on this one, that doesn't happen as such on a few other communites I know! 8)

If you are using the new wrapper then the canopy_sound folder just needs to go in the Mods folder. The new wrapper structure really makes it that simple.

If you haven't updated to the new wrapper then you will have to do it the old way by copying the 3 sound waves to your files/samples folder and adding the pathnames to your filelist.txt file. I'm not sure about preset files. I wish I could be more specific on the filelist additions and presets, but I'm not very familiar with the old way.

Huxley_S seems to have a pretty good handle on this, maybe he can help.

One more thing, I did have to raise the volume levels for my installation because I have my landing gear and flap levels set pretty high.

As I said before, this one really is a team effort. I think it's cool the way everyone brought something to the table. Everyone feel free to add, change, redo, contribute, improve and share it.

Only if you want to change the values in the preset file. These sounds already exist in the game, they are just being replaced with improved sounds, so the default preset file will be used when the game loads.

I wish every canopy could open but I don't think it's possible with any planes other than the Pacific Fighters plane set. Too bad.

Dixiecapt, you said you're using the new wrapper but are you using a Mods folder for your new mods?

Stefano I'm almost certain that the modders can't Mod Canopy's to open on A/C that they currently don't open on. That would require re-coding the aircraft I think, which is something that isn't very possible.

I beleive!
