Possibility of an installer pack for multiple mods?
#1

I'm just wondering if it would be possible to have all the 'essential' mods placed into a patch, and then any files that come along later could be the updates.

Thinking out loud here, but obviously the Sound mod needs to go in, there is a new wrapper, 6-DoF, the Bomber pack, new landscape terrain texture pack, etc, etc.

I'm just wondering if it would be possible to have an all encompassing 'Patch' to install what are seen as the essentials?

Interesting idea...But, what may be "essential to you might not be "essential" to others.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Mods that appear to have a) the most feedback and b) the most downloads.

If these could be put into an installer pack, it would save questions like, where do they go, where does the wrapper file go, where do I enter the text, etc, etc.

Give the community an easy way in to the modding delights, and then the less downloaded ones are ready for newer users to start taking an interest in.

Although I understand about one persons preference, I think it is fair to say there are some obvious candidates like;

Sound Mod, New wrapper.exe, Bomber Pack, 6-DoF, Skin Mod, Community Map pack, VPMedia texture pack.

I'm thinkinga long the lines of the AAA Modpack:

(The link is inoperative)

but with a whole host of other add-ons included?

As I said, just thinking out loud Wink

I agree with Spidermonkey. When a new mod is made and offered to the forum, those who want it install it and those that don't, won't. If an installer is made, with the wrapper included, with all the most downloaded mods, and somebody doesn't want one of the particular mods within the installer, they can just install them all and via wrapper, either delete or incapacitate the unwanted mod. But in essence, the installer would simplify everyone's life and questions.
Also updates to furture versions of any mod can be put within the original installer and the whole package could then be re-installed to overwrite the previous version and keep those that have not yet been updated.
Other less frequently downloaded mods could still be installed as usual.
I'm not computer literate enough to make the installer but I would sure like one available to make life easier.

Any way of creating one install of all the current mod packs and enhance the installer with user selected options, like Windows installer that you can check or uncheck (uninstall) a mod.

For instance, some may like the fw190 flat canopy while other like the bulge meanwhile some might want that signature Il2 FW gunsight rather than the new one.

i agree with this idea wholeheartedly. Something akin to the mod packs used for SH4 would be great. If we could take every mod done to date, place them in a single .exe and call it the IL2 Uber mod, it sure would make things a lot easier to install.

but i do see the point of keeping everything seperate.

it would also be nice to have another file uploaded that updates to v4.09, without losing the mod functionality.

I think it would be good if Mods in the Mod download area could be rated and sorted by popularity and rating like Mission4Today, that way it would be easy to see which are the 'essential' mods.
