VC Pit
#1

Despite Oleg's comments about defects in it's 3D model.

has anyone tried to fix the VC pit problem?

All kinds of things were said about not being able to fix/change the 190 bar and, well it was done.

Could someone please confirm whether this pit cannot be fixed or not.

cheers.

There is an ongoing thread about this problem.. It has been bumped a few times, but I guess the modders hands are full with other stuff at the moment..

Mark.Vb pit works fine with Mark.Vc, but there is a bug with the mirror (simple rename Mark.Vb cockpit as SpitfireMkVc).

Mark.IX has problems.......

Brilliant work Veltro!!!

Spitfire Vc (2) with Vb pit

On the normal start view, the top of the nose can just be seen.

Problems, the mirror has a large black wedge in it and the cockpit now features the early external bolt on armoured glass as opposed to the later internal armoured glass. All in all, I like this cockpit better than the high-chair cockpit of the present Vc.

I also tried the Seafire cockpit but got similar results to the IX pit above.

Had the day off today so spent the morning working on the Vc problem.

Initially I tried to solve the problem of using the Seafire pit. When you look at the wings of your aircraft from inside the cockpit, what your seeing is the wings from the external model. This is not the case for the Seafire. The Seafire's cockpit, like the Vc is mounted high above the plane. To make it appear to be in the correct spot, they've added a new set of wings and nose to the cockpit view (just like new instruments) which cover up the actual wings and nose. The cockpit Veltro posted with the green wings/nose is the Seafire pit. As the Vc model is lacking the extra textures for the cockpit-view wings/nose, they just show up as green. If you remove these wings/nose, you can see the originals but end up with the cockpit floating high above the plane again...

So back to the Vb pit with its two problems...
1. The black spot on the mirror
2. The incorrect cockpit armoured glass

First I looked at the mirror. It turns out the black spot you can see is the Vc's mirror on the external model. By moving the internal mirror down the plane, you can move it past the external models mirror and get a clear view.

The lines on the bottom edges of the mirror is the rim of the external models mirror. Unfortunately, if I move the mirror backwards any further, its no longer connected to the cockpit and appears to be floating in space.

On the second problem, I found that the armoured glass is set by a file called Body.msh which is found in the cockpit folder of a plane. The Vb's body.msh shows the external armoured glass. The Seafires shows the internal armoured glass but includes the fake nose.

What we need is the IX's body.msh which has the internal armoured glass but no fake nose. Does anyone know where I can find this?

All credit goes to Veltro for working out how to add Vc cockpit files...

The revised version with round mirrors can be downloaded from here. If you have trouble, please try again. If this fails, PM me your email address and I'll email it to you (2meg file)

Outstanding work guys. This is the fix I have most wanted to see accomplished in this sim. Even without the proper Vc pit the Vb pit is a vast improvement over what we had previously. Thanks for your hard work in making this possible.

Still playing with this trying to get the perfect pit...

I've managed to lower the pit to the correct spot and apply the correct armoured glass. In normal view it looks fantastic...

but as soon as you go to gunsite view, you can see holes in the engine cowling which looks sh*te...

Still working on it...

I need to go to bed but...

the holes in the cowl on gunsite view has been fixed Big Grin

Theres a couple of minor hiccups with some of the cockpits parts being out of place (Bort_L, column and gunsite) but this should only take a couple of hours to get the buggers back in place...

Its turning out far better than I'd hoped. Even the rear view mirror is working perfectly. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I'll finish it on the weekend when I have a bit more time...
