Germany and Poland
#16

That map is a great idea. I think that size mayby around from Oder on west (we have now "Berlin" map with small part of modern Poland) to before-war Polish-Soviet border on east (west Ukraine- "Lvov" map, Belarus, Wilno/Vilnuas region). In north part it could include East Prussia with Koningsberg/Kaliningrad, and on south: of course Silesia and Polish-Slovakian border in Carpathian mountains.

It will be not only for 39 scenarios: for Barbarossa begin, and 44-45 (winter ofensive) too.

So, good luck.

Hi Prodigy,

thx very much for your WIP !!

Maybe, this can help you, its a Map of Germany 1939:

I think, the easter Part will be important to your map.

Please don't forget the Cities "Frankfurt an der Oder" and "Goerlitz".

AFAIK, Frankfurt/O. was most important Airbase for Axis Invasion.
Goerlitz (70 km South of Frankfurt/O., on Lake "Nei

Prodigy Wrote:this was only a test its not final the mapsice!
in final i dont want the ilands but more in the east so i can fly over poland!

@:fly hm but in the tutorials stand:
menu:
"modify"
"elevation"
Select "colours from table"
Then select the "Elevation Table" button
Load the new table values I have sent
Select the "Missing" button
Choose red as your colour
Press "OK"
Ensure "Ocean Check" and "Lake Check" is not ticked
Press "OK"

and wy diveded by 32?

... you need to keep reading m8.... a little further tutorial explains all regarding missing DEM data....

there are two or three sequences more of CW's tutorial (in tuto thread) , one of them explains how to merge srtm files ... so you don't have to do it in graphic editor.

to avoid tearing up textures its important to have size that can be divided by 32 . ( computer stuff 8bit ... 8..16..32 )

pic you've posted looks ok but its better if you merge srtm in microdem and export as whole map .... then just crop it in graph. editor

p.s. PM me your mail ..... again

yes you have done it like you should , just merge srtm files ( separate maps squares ) into one in microdem ... make all steps you have done .....don't know if you did that as well :

Now to set the scale, go to menu:

"Modify"
"Map Area"
"Set Map pixel size"
since we are making a map_h, change the value to "200.0" and press "OK"
set pixel and export in BMP

after it make map_t (texture) and map_c (land/water)as explained in CW's tutorial and export it as BMP as well .

Open new project in graphic editor ... put all three maps as layers in it .... crop to desired size/area

North: mayby to Koeningsberg: them we will have whole polish coast of Baltic.
South: a few more, Krakow must be include (holy s: you must choose)
East: to Lublin? You could add Polish Air Force Pilots School in Deblin
( http://www.wsosp.deblin.pl/index.php?lang=en )
Then will be good.

And you can talk with Targetware mod War over Poland team

I am not sure. I don't know if there is any limit for map size in Il-2. The limit for this map are our computers. Look at 6 times smaller Slovakia. I know, there are many object on this map, but we have to choose - the big one with almost no ground objects or the smaller one with many objects. Even I would prefer much smaller map with no sea in the north and western border moved to Prague. We need German/Polish border and Warsaw. Remember one thing - over 95% of map is covered by land. And the land is covered by forests, roads, cities and towns. Do you prefer map in Khalinin-ghol style or in (at least) Berlin style? I am for the second one. Nobody says we can't try it..

you can always make two (or more) versions of your map .... light and heavy populated ....need only different actors static files ......

Or not 1, but few maps, smaller than that, but with many objects.
Mayby:
"Baltic shore and East Prussia": many forests nad lakes (Sttetein/Szczecin, Danzing/Gdansk, Koeningsberg/Kaliningrad
"Central Poland": Kielce, Lodz, Warsaw, Lublin, to border of Prussia (with small part for 1-2 airfields)
"South Poland" : Krakow and Uppper Silesia (Katowice/Kattovitz, Sosnowiec)
"Lower Silesia and Czech Republic": Wroclaw/Breslau, Prague, Dresden
"Polesie": Brest over Bug (Litovsk/"Lithuanian"), Kovel, Rovno
or even Wilno/Vilnuas-Belarussian Minsk region

It would look better if you didn't cut the land part above Danzig. It will create a landmass that goes straight north forever, where the map ends. Better cut the map just above K
