F4U-2

Has anyone thought of making this a/c? it would be pretty easy- just take the U.S. 75 Gal drop tank (from P-51 and such) and attach it to the right wing leading edge on the corsair mk.1/F4U-1 (it's about perfect size for the -2's radome) and remove one of the .50s on the right side. This would be a great addition, especially for the slot map, where these corsairs saw a lot of action.

If soembody does this Pelase, please, please, do the 5N and 5-NL
Same thing but witha C with the 20mm canons on its wings.

Oh man if soemone does this, I will be eternally gratitude! Smile

I now teh french on tihis site would be also very gratefull!
And it is ideal for teh Korean map Wink.

Also you should install the antena on the fuselage but you can get this on efrom the C 47 or the new texan being developed Wink.

Oh man MODS, first I get the cance to model my own territory, now look a like planes that the Argentine navy really used are a posibility...

Now if some one turns a Yp-80 into a Panther, I will be in heaven!

Excellent suggestion!! I wouldn't even care if the 6th .50 were left on the plane. It would probably be easier to get done that way. This would be an awesome addition. Maybe apply it to the Corsair Mk III/IV ?. They typically operated in singles, so having the ability to put a default US skin on it with markings on is not a big concern.

Maybe do the same thing with Hellcat? It also had an external 'tank' attached to right wing.

that would work for the F6F-3N, but the -5N had 4 .50s and 2 20mm cannons (which would also be a very cool mod...)

Did the F4U-2 have the bird cage canopy??

The night fighter version of the Hellcat would be great as well, but let's not worry about the historically correct armament. It's just not that important, and would help ensure it gets done rather getting bogged down in arguments about changing the weapons of aircraft. After all, it's just a cosmetic mod anyway.

yes. all 30 purpose built -2s were just "birdcage" -1s modified with the radome, removal of the outboard right MG, radar instruments/equipment in the cockpit, and the small t-shaped radio altimeter antennas under the fuselage and the corresponding dial in the cockpit, as well as a small generator scoop on the right forward fuselage.. There were also 2 -1As modified in the field to -2 standard. However, simply adding the radome and maybe radio altimeter antennas should be enough for in-game.

*edit AND the -2s had extended exhaust pipes to reduce exhaust flame to help the pilot's night vision.

a very good idea Smile

Well, the thing is, if you are planning on having both the straight bird cage -1, AND the -2 in the the same mission, that's going to be a challenge, isn't it? Why not just make the -1A version of the night fighter, using the Corsair MkIII so that we can still have the F4U-1 and -1A?

That's why I'd say maybe release a version now, and then once we figure out how to add new a/c we can have both of them! And, would it be possible to use the corsair II or something, and replace its 3D bodel with that of the -1?
