What system do you have? CPU/RAM/Video/sound/OS? You might try using different driver sets, some people claim performance advantages with certain ones (for both ATI and Nvidia).

Other than that you can turn OFF antialiasing to get a few more fps, cut Specular settings as indicated in the first post in this thread. TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=1 will also give you 2-4 more fps on average, but your sky will not be opaque. I can recommend more changes once you tell me your hardware.

if you are really into quality into picture and high framerates then get nividia 8800 series, if you can afford it.

if you are really into high framerates then turn off the antialising. i used to play without anti on 7600GS and could get 120fps. Medium anti, i would get 30fps, full anti i get 12-17 fps. But since my PC fried and going to get a new one I will get ATI X2 3850 in the beginning of april so i can get good drivers for that card.

Your eye can distinguish no more than 35fps so you dont really have to get a kick ass cards

Use 2xQ antialiasing (force using rivatuner) should get you a bit more speed if you are using 4xAA (the "middle" setting on a lot of drivers, I believe). The 8800 and 9600 series is excellent. More than excellent, and the price is incredibly low now. A single 9600-512mb or 8800GTS-320mb only costs around 150 and would offer you far more performance than 2 7950GTs, especially with AA and higher resolutions. The Radeon 3870 is a big huge dud. I'm replacing the one I have tomorrow with 2 9600s. So happy to be free of ATI's latest disaster, I can't even play most of my games right now, including IL2.

Let me repost from another forum my words on this subject:

Quote: My tweak post clearly lays out the problems with ATI's performance in IL2. No ATI hardware generation has been excellent for IL2, but the x1000 series is definitely better than the HD2/3 series. Having owned multiple cards from all generations involved (including r300 gen and before) I can state with authority that nvidia is superior for IL2. Some ATI generations offered better overall solutions for most games at the time they were introduced, but this is not then, this is now, and the GF8/9 series are ALL superior to ATI's HD2000/3000 offerings at the same price point, for both IL2 and almost all other modern games. Read more if you doubt, you will discover the myriad reasons for this.

Having recently tested both the 8800 and 9600 series in depth ALONGSIDE 2 different modern radeon cards in over 20 different games I will be replacing my current HD3870 tomorrow when my new 9600s arrive in the post. I'm both a daily IL2er and a rabid gamer that plays everything good, old and new. The Witcher, System Shock 2, Anno 1701, Crysis, Stalker, Oblivion and Morrowind, even Deus Ex and Theme Hospital. If it's good, I still play it. And the 3870 is epic fail. I'm keeping my X1900XT for my wife's computer, but I'm not keeping my brand new 3870. The series is a dud, and few games make this more painfully apparent than IL2.

Essentially, the best choice for gaming right now depends on price point.

Under 150 = 8600GTS or 8800 GS if you can find one
150-200 dollars = 8800GTS or 9600GT
High end one card = 8800GTX 768mb (360-380 USD)
High end multiple card = 2x9600GT 512mb (310-340USD)

I'm not an nvidia fanboy. My last 3 cards were ATI. I know crap when I see it, and I know ownage when I see it. All 420th members will have GF8/GF9 cards as of tomorrow night, we're ALL upgrading at the same time and most of us had ATI before. This gen ATI is just garbage. Too many problems, too underperforming, too many driver level issues, too much hardware level quirkiness, too many random problems that should not ever appear in a "top of the line" product. End communication. :twisted:

Working with a Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb tonight I found the biggest performance improvement by far for this card was shaders=0 forest=0 and water=0 -- with those 3 changes (and still running 8xAA/16xAF and full specular and everything else) I got 21 fps when the LA rammed the FW in the black death. Quite acceptable. And Stalker runs way better than the 3870. So beautiful... and my cards coming tomorrow are even faster than this! Big Grin

2xQ is the same thing as Quincunx, which is a special trademarked nvidia only antialiasing mode that offers almost 4x quality at about 2x speed.

Edit: Dither should be 1 and has to do with color blending and, in il2 specifically, smoke. Stipple is usually 1 as well but I honestly don't know what it does. I know if you choose nvidia 6800 series in the il2setup it turns it on.

OK, I'll try Quincunx next time I'll play (i.e. as soon as I'm done with today's work).
Shaders, water and forest have been set to =0 since you started this thread. In fact, shaders was already set to =0.
Specularlight=0 doesn't seem to affect image quality, or if it does I havent noticed yet. Specular=0 gets reverted back to =1 each time the game is started.

Oh and by the way, what dll's do you think I should use?
I'm using those released on M4T on feb 15 (for 4.09), I switch back and forth between 4.09 and 4.08 pretty often (4.08 on line and 4.09 off line) should I use two different sets of dll's?Which ones?
I have four sets of dll's: stock 408, stock 409, Oleg's 8800 and M4T's feb.15. (oleg's "standart" (sic) wouldn't work)
I guess I should simply experiment and find out (I never compared them with a FPS counter on) but it'd be nice to know what you think.

Got to go now, I'll post my results with Quincunx.

Thats my settings and i dont sure if best for my hardware. I just want to see enemy planes better (especially if they below me on summer maps). Dunno what settings should i do/change but im really sick about to see enemy planes better. They can easly see me if im flying lower (even if i fly over forest) but i cannot. I really would like to see enemy/friend dots from high distance even they fly low or high. My Hardware:
3 GB Kingston DDR2 Ram 800
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.80 GHz
X1950 Pro 512 Mb 256 Bit

Pls my apologise to all if this is off topic message but i couldnt find an answer anywhere... Thanks for ur patience and answers.

Use Anisotropic filtering on your video card in windows (16x). Antialiasing as well, 2x. Your pc can handle those settings if the game is properly configured (check first post in this thread). Seeing planes against the ground is always going to be hard though and the better your graphics the harder it gets (because camo starts working like it really would). If you desire you might try planeshine mod (check mod section of this forum). Also, turning off specular makes planes more of a matte finish and makes them harder to see against the ground. You'll lose some fps but if a little more visibility is important, use:

Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
