Avia B-534 flyable and Letov S-328 AI - I have the models...
#1

Hello guys,

I want keep this one short and straight.

1. I am one of the core members of Slovakia map team. I made 90% of the new ground objects coming with 4.09. Prior to modelling for Slovakia map, I have done some other 3D modelling work for IL-2: Bofors AAA, some tanks, mortars and V-2 rockets. I have also initiated and coordinated the modelling of Avia B-534 and Letov S-328 with my Hungarian friend Viktor Szalai a.k.a. Jutocsa (who modelled the planes + cockpits).

2. After 3 years of waiting and looking at the finished models on my hard drive, I guess it's about time to make the final move. Since neither Avia nor Letov are going to be in the official 4.09 patch, the only way how to get them in is through the modding community. I am not angry at Oleg. He has his reasons and I accept them. He has never promised us for 100% that the planes would ever make it. On the other hand, I have never promised to Oleg I would only use the official way. 8) I think it's a fair game. I have dedicated too much free time, energy and financial resources to all of my IL-2 projects. The only things I ever wanted in return were these two biplanes.

3. Now, the status quo. I got all the models = external Avia, external Letov and Avia cockpit in my hands. I have made complete PDF manuals and axis movement definition files for the external models (not for the cockpit yet). More importantly all models have been checked and imported into the game engine by Vladimir Kochmarsky a.k.a. SaqSoN. Thus, they should be very close to "perfection" in terms of 3D modelling". Fortunatelly, I have also all files generated by the game engine during conversion. I got no files for FM though.

4. So, to make my story short, is there anyone out there willing to take this challenge and help us to get the planes in if it is technically possible? I would provide my support, but I am no programmer, just a modeller. Hawk, fly_zo, Ranwers and others, would you consider to take this project (or Avia curse as I call it) upon your shoulders?

Thanks.

Martin K.

I would be very cool to have these planes added to the game. Ditto Fokker D.XXI and Curtiss Demon. I also saw a Ki-15 model around - all these would be a grat addition.

And if the conversion files being mentioned here could reveal some information how to make it possible to import new 3D files instead of having frankenstein planes as we do now, that would be IMHO the Holy Grail of Il-2 modding!

I was in daily contact with Tero from Finland who has modelled the Fokker. In fact, Tero made some nice castles for Slovakia map. I will try to reach him via email and MSN and ask him for the Fokker model and cockpit. He has been a bit quiet recently. I suppose he would like to see his hard work being put in some use as well. No promises, but I will try.

Meanwhile, this is what I got for Avia external. Ignore the folders, that's my own folder structure. All other files (except the .max file) are coming from the game engine conversion. I have no clue what those are or if they are complete, but I hope they are at least somehow useful for us. This is the entire package that was submitted to 1C for FM programming.
