Ship waypoints
#1

I know there have been discussions on possibly giving the ships an AI capability, but has anyone looked at maybe simply modifying how the ship moves? Mission builders can script the missions to incorporate ship evasives, but the reason they (or I) dont is that it takes forever for the ship to change to a heading and it looks unrealistic as hell.

anyone?

I'm all for that. I built a few ship track templates....laboriously working out a curving, weaving formation based around a carrier. It was extremely difficult because in order to have smooth-looking turns, you need ALOT of waypoints close together, and it was hard to follow what the hell you're doing with all the red lines and info in the way. Once done, it's not too bad cutting and pasting into new missions, but I find it hard to get the locations exactly right on different maps if there is any land on the map. An easier method, like programmed evasive manouevers, would be sweet.

i dont even know where to begin to look for something like that, or id try to tackle this myself. I suspect that all wps for all vehicles, ships and planes are simple vectors, but because the vehicles and ships dont bank, they always change course in a flat plane and slide to a new wp rather than turn

There was talk of assigning ships with AI waypoints like aircraft but on the water in the boat mod thread a few weeks back. Weather it's still being worked on or not, I do not know.
