Deception. Japanese couldn't be sure about the real power of fire of Corsair in early variants. I have got a picture of a authentic Corsair in the Pacific theater with the 4th hole (false) added...

Been ready for the Slot, for two years, be sure! Yeah, the extra guns are just painted on, like some real F4U-1's. I have a picture of a F4U-1 that would lead an enemy pilot to believe it had 10 machine guns! Extra muzzle ports painted on either side of the real ports. Most "extra guns" F4U-1's had only one port painted outboard of the real ports.
