Marianas and Okinawa retextured
#1

I have retextured Okinawa and the Marianas with textures from 4.09b
So you need 4.09 b to make this work!
I did not aim for historical correctness (might do so later); this is only a texture change to make the stock maps look better.
Any feedback is welcome, this is my first try so be mild

Screenies:

Okinawa:

Marianas

Download:
(The link is inoperative) file=Fly_zo/PK_reskined_maps.exe

Point installer to your il2 main folder and files will install in the \MODS\MAPMODS\maps folder.

Hope you enjoy!

Much Better!

Though I wish the rivers could be fixed, as we know the game only provides for a minimum width which is too wide for these rivers, especially Okinawa. I was stationed on Okinawa in the early 90's. I did not notice if you included the airfields at Kadena and Yomitan. Yomitan's airfield sits on top of an escarpment and was surrounded by sugar cane fields. Kadena's is below it. Pictures from Okinawa at that time show a very beautiful and largely undeveloped pastoral countryside quilted with farmlands (southern Oki) whereas northern Oki was and still is largely forested and rugged.

You also may want to add "Kadena Circle" It was a roundabout which the Army made vicinity of Kadena airbase to aid in the movement of supplies. The location of Kadena circle today (Google map it) is where is was then. Of course it did not exist prior to the invasion so depending on what time you wish to represent is whether you include it or not. Good work!

no custom entries in all.ini will be overwritten with this install .... just alphabetically reorganized

condition is however that you've followed install instructions ( sticky ) and you have your all.ini present in : game-root\mods\mapmods\maps\all.ini before installation .

Panzerkiel , i thought this is finished mod .... why posting in WIP/ beta ?

no problem m8 , i did test it and you have approval to post it at "map mods download section" as official mod Big Grin

just please don't post warning regarding all.ini ( see my previous post for explanation ) cos it could confuse unexperienced users

cheers,

I don't think that FMB has the right cultural objects to do Okinawa justice.

Great link - thanks.
I can obviously not make a 100% perfekt map, but I can redo the airfields, and (part of) the cities..
I now know what I have to do this weekend.

I think I have an even worse problem with Thailand....all I have in the FMB are grass huts

some nice looking Mosques and churches in the 4.09...but nothing like a temple or chedi....maybe have to try re-skinning some existing objects and combining them :?

BTW...those white curved Hawaii airbase blocks might be reskinned to look like the kind of chinese graves....I don't know what they look like in Okinawa
