I love the weathering as it is. Just looks like general wear and tear as you might expect in a well used front-line fighter. The original cockpit, while by no means the worst in IL-2, looks slightly cartoon like to me. These new textures look like they could be for the new BOB game, they are that good. Amazing detail.

I found that they are historically pretty accurate, and for digits and dials I used ivory more then bright white. Here is good site for references on German instruments.

Looking great. Best to avoid weathering too harshly though. The average lifespan of a wartime fighter was not exactly high. It look just right as it is. :wink:

Hey Klemm, thanks for the feedback on that, I might need some more help with text and what font they might be

I paint the txtures by "hand" in photoshop, with a wacom tablet, so nothing is photographed or anything like that, i ve got some ref from google but theyre way to low res to steal textures from, the main thing I'm doing is to give everything a little bit of colour, even tho metal and paint looks "grey" the colour is reflecting so much more, in the real world there's basically no such thing as 100% white and 100% blak, grey too also the gauges in the corners need to be "shadowed" and it takes a few shots before i get them right, the shadow from the artificial horizon is actually embedded in the panel texture behind it, and so on.

Please let me know if its TOO weathered, I sort of like it, but all the reference I have so far is photos of old cockpits that might be way too rusty

I'm glad to give feedback on that, since i'm German those little gramar errors really spring into my face. If you look at Olegs cockpits, i think he got all the text right. Looking at original instruments is the best way of course, and someone already gave you a link for that.
I didn't think you're doing all the textures by hand, simply amazing.
Textures and gauges you did look great, but weathering is slightly too much *for my taste*. But the current version is fine anyway. It looks like i'd expect it to after some 4 to 6 months use (yes, there were 190 A 8's that survived that long on the frontline). Maybe you could release a version with less weathering, as a "2-weeks-used" version, and this one. This is only a suggestion though.

I second the ideea that less weathered is better... some scratches are ok but weathered is not realistic and take a lot of time to produce debatable results.

I like Freddy's 109s a lot because of their kinda-new look.

We don't fly a plane to many hours before we crash it or die or something... is funny to be assigned to a "newly" deep-sea recovered plane .

Some compromise must be done with weathering. It may be not so historically accurate to have too much weathering, but gives a lot to the immersion. I wouldn’t change it at all, its good how it is now. Like I said, FlushMeister you did really outstanding job. FW wasn't of my favorite planes, but I can hardly wait to try this yours.

Not to be forgotten that even chemical formula of colors of that period was somewhat different then today is, and that planes was made in war production, meaning it was fast and not so perfect.

FockeWulf is famous for its fast and easy production, thanks to the ingenious constructions of Dr. Tank.

Also, many of the German war time planes were produced at dislocated factories, in railway tunnels, caves, even in schools. Some of them were produced using slave labor of prisoners. All of that affects look and perfection of the planes.


On Trooper's picture it is so obviously modern made replica of cockpit. It is too perfect for war time period production. We are now with the technology available today, so used to that everything is made perfect, that sometimes we forgot how it was made back then, and how items made back then looks amazingly imperfect to us. Because it was made almost (semi) manually.

I was amazed how imperfect, almost childish are looking war time British gauges and indicators, on some of them you can see that digits was obviously hand painted with fine brush.
