Clipped wing Seafire MK.III anyone?

With the advent of adding new aircraft slots would there be any hope of seeing a clipped wing Seafire MK.III :?:

Good photographic evidence is easily found to support the fact that they were used on operations.

They were mostly taken on HMS Hunter during Operation Avalanche, the landings at Salerno, Italy in 1943, where Force V consisting of 4 Escort Carriers (Attack carriers in fact) Attacker, Battler, Hunter and Stalker along with the repair/refit carrier Unicorn fielded 113 Seafires as fighter cover. They maintained 20 Seafires over the beach-head during daylight hours.

Enemy air opposition was light and Seafire pilots claimed only 2 destroyed and 4 damaged for 10 Seafires lost to hostile reasons.

Due to the flat calm weather they only had 18 knots over the decks produced by the small carriers themselves and initially the rate of landing accidents was very high, over 40 Seafires being written off this way!

nevermind the fact we already have a spit in the game which uses droptanks, that could be used as a base to build up from and added into a new slot.. No... nevermind that...

+1 for the Clipped Wing Seafire.

These are mostly Seafires L.F. Mk.IIc I think, they had similar nose as Mk.III and same four bladed props.

As far as i'm aware the seafires have bombs or rockets, the mk IX spits have droptank capability and also bombs, in mission builder they can also have both. the rest can't have bombs or droptanks

Yes you are absolutely correct, going by the serial no.s some of these are L.(F)Mk.IIC Seafires, from a batch of 110 produced by Westland Aircraft Ltd. This batch of 110 aircraft were Seafire Mk.IIC's fitted with the Merlin 55 and four blade prop of the Seafire Mk.III but retained the fixed wings of the Mk.IIC, subsequently these hybrids were designated L.(F)Mk.IIC.

Interestingly out of a batch of 90 Seafire F.III's ordered the same day also from Westland Aircraft Ltd. The first 30 were fitted with 'C' type universal wings, non folding same as the Mk.IIC, but retained the designation F.Mk.III.

As the Seafire Mk.III was based on the Mk.IIC with the addition of folding wings and the Merlin 55 and four blade prop, it's hard to tell the difference when it comes to hybrids such as some of those pictured without going to serial no.s. and the most informative Fleet Air Arm Archive http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/Aircraft/Seafire.htm

However I'd very much like a Seafire Mk.IIC too as they were pretty active in the MTO and with the Easten Fleet...as it's essentialy just a Spifire Mk.VC with a tailhook added it might not be too hard to do?

Anyhow, here's a little hard evidence to support the clipped wing Seafire Mk.III idea, taken from "British Aircraft of World War II" by John Frayn Turner...
