Yes, it would be nice to squeeze Rangoon in there, I agree
FabianFred, after this Thailand map, I think you should try the Central-South Burma map. Idea

yesterday...(since this site was off-line)...I made another version....which just gets Rangoon in.....but loses sme to the East....so I suppose I will have to do two versions

nice to see you here Redcomet...I will post updates at Thaiflight forum too

I am not sure how to go about getting the rivers put in..?? Even the major ones like the Mekong are very patchy, with just puddles in places and not even connected...

I'm not bothering with small ones..there will be plenty as it is

Well...since I am working at 3:4 scale....yesterday I remade the complete map to include all of Thailand + bits of Laos/vietnam/Cambodia to the east as with the first map + a littlebit more of Burma to the west....enough to get Rangoon in....

Might as well work on just the single map 8)

I tried drawing in some of the main rivers...especially the River Mekong.....looks nice as it winds through the mountains...but in a few places it follows the wrong route and climbs over
I wish we could edit the rivers whilst in 3D view Cry

There are no trees upon my map yet...I am using jungle textures and it looks quite good

I would like to get a lot of the random trees showing...but nothing seems to work

I don't know how to cover the landscape in the 'woods'....I'm certainly not going to do it all in the FMB...maybe just around bases

I have now made about four different maps....thailand 1:2; thailand 3:4; Burma/Thailand 3:4; and this one....and every single one is the same.... all inland lakes are below level....and all islands and sea coasts are slightly above the sea at the edges....of course you don't see it from flying above....but it is annoying....and there is no surf on my shore...probably because of it

yesterday I had an Emily take-off, on AI whilst I watched, from the Tonle Sap lake in Cambodia....and the wake showed it was above the water level as it took-off

Yesterday, suspecting that there may be a problem with the Photoshop conversion from RGB to Greyscale process, I re-made my map_T and map_h in Gimp.

The textures came out much better......all nicely layered like a cake....going from the coast right up to the mountain tops........I used a different texture for each to check (lowland 0,1,2,3 midland 0,1,2,3 etc.)

One would expect mount 3 to be the highest !......not......country 0,1,2,3 are higher... :?

My water levels were still too low..??? The sea level I was able to raise (by opening map_h in Photoshop and in the 'levels' moving the left hand slider to bring it in line with the first elevation data.)
Trying to get the rivers and lake to be the correct height doesn't work...it just makes ugly canyons

BUT...the biggest problem is.....I cannot get ships to place anywhere upon the map!!!...even after getting the sea level correct....

whereas.....armour and vehicles can be placed....and waypoints placed to take them across the sea and rivers....but they shy away from mountains and their waypoints bend around them ( just like normally ships do if we place their path near to any land).....

I'm really at a loss with this problem Cry

strange m8 , it seams to me that your watter still isn't flat ..... do try make new map_h.tga all flat ( all one sea level shade ) for test and then try ships ....

for rivers if needs to be higher than sea level i would select them from map_c and make layer just from them .... place that layer in map_h and with color overlay+colorstroke (layer option) get desired elevation . Where rivers are changing elevation .... manually make gradual color change ( usually using new layer)

The map t/h are in greyscale ....can these be saved with layers then???

the fact that ships cannot be placed...and vehicles can run over water and avoid high ground....must be related somehow..??

... save them as gray scale .psd files while working on them .... when finished ....flatten layers ... save as tga .... i'm working in Photoshop for other editors i'm not sure ....

for ships uneven elevations must be the reason , and for vehicles .....i don't have a clue  ( maybe water/land areas on map_c ...or wrong map_c.tga_table)

I cannot see how there can be uneven elevations on the sea.....after selecting it in map_h and filling the area with total black at 0.....??
