Can the circular blast wave be removed from explosions?
#1

When the plane hits the ground or a bomb explodes, as-well as the flames and smoke of the explosion you also get the grey circular blast-wave.

Is it possible to find the code and just remove that from the explosion.

Firstly it looks unrealistic, and secondly if a bomb explodes behind an object, the grey circular blast wave is super-imposed over the top of the object instead of behind it and it looks awful.

Would this be an easy fix?

Maybe a bit off topic, but I've always thought the explosions in Il-2 could be a little better. They seem very brief, like fire-crackers. The best explosions I've seen have been the ones in Strike Fighters, where it seems like a huge mass of dirt and smoke are thrown into the air, and are made more impressive by their duration as the debris slowly falls back to earth. Afterwards, smoke and dust obscures the target in a very realistic manner for most of the mission - it really looks clobbered.

Can we keep the effect for some weapons though?

Like the big bomb in the Pe-8 or G4M betty (800kg bomb)? With big bombs like US 2,000 lb bomb or Japanese 800 & 600 kg bomb and the big russian bomb. I think we should keep them for some but take them off for the others if this can be done.

We should also give that big russian bomb to the B-29. Hirishima anyone?

The wave is a .eff look in your effects and you can fix it.

Dont ask about the Fab5000 on the B-29 becuase it wont happen.

Hi Hellzone, seriously you assume I have knowledge of .eff, I really don't.

Which part of the .eff will remove the grey blast circle?

I have no problem with the explosions, just the grey circle blast.

Do not remove the shockwave ring!

It is completely realistic and remember, it's not there for cheese, it's dirt and compressed air.

Even when I threw grenades, there was a ring, IRL.

lol.. How do you know that? The correct drill after posting or throwing grenades is to take cover immediately.. If you keep your head up to watch it go off you are likely to get killed or injured yourself!.. 8)

Depends on the grenade and even more on how far are you able to throw.

Offensive hand grenades have a relatively small blast range because they're designed to be thrown while running during an attack. Defensive grenades have a much larger blast radius because they're designed to be thrown from a sheltered position while defending.

I know.. I teach this stuff day in day out. I was using a little sarcastic humour 8) .. It's the way we chaps amuse ourselves, looking for little chinks in our mates armour, try to break them down until they snap!

At SOI at Camp Pendleton there is a concrete tower with thick glass which you observe the explosions of the person who went after you. Smile

Hahaha.. Well, we Brits do things on a shoe string, you know that.. No expensive viewing gallery for us.. It's throw it, and get your face and arse down in the mud and gravel before it goes off!

there's also a .tga texture for the blast wave in the 3do/effects folder that you can edit to your preference- you could even make it completely transparent and remove the blast wave that way. Smile

Has anybody actually tried to play with the effects folder yet? If yes, i'd be interested in any information they could share about it.

Same here, if it can't be done for the masses, is there any chance of someone just posting a 'how to' guide, so that if a player doesn't want to see the blast ring (I mean if it was a 3d percussion wave...now that's different!), I mean a 2d flat grey ring, can someone tell me how to just delete from my game?

Thanks, SM.
