Level Stab
#1

Would it be possible to have the level stabilizer function applied to single engined planes with rear gunners. To replace the pilot so to speak in a limited way and leave me free to do some shooting from the back without having to fly in reverse as well.

What do you think?

I'm sure it can be since all ac once had this attribute. Oleg changed it to the present state because some were using it as a cheat. A player was able to fly straight down, hit level stab and pull out of an other wise sure death maneuver :x

I was wondering what that useless "level autopilot" key binding was meant for.

So that's it, basically you don't get to jump in other crew compartments unless you map a flight plan and hit autopilot, because online dogfighters would cheat with it.

Bugger them. Why can't a mod be made and the servers left to exclude it? That way those of us who bought il2 to enjoy the full benefits of a good ww2 sim in the privacy of home, can.

Sounds more fair to me.

Could it be mapped so it could only be used once you were in the gunners position.

I would think some sharp modder could locate this function in .SFS files and alter it so all planes with gunner positions had level stab enabled. Keep this topic near top of this section and sooner or later it will be seen by the right person

Most are quite busy at this time, so maybe with time......, But ultimately MrJolly will have the final say.

Level Stabilizer works on all aircraft with a bombsight, on or offline.

Auto pilot will work offline too.

I'll try it out again next time I spark the game up but my problem last time was flying the Ju-88 which has sights. Every time I switched to the bombardier for a level bombing run and hit "level autopilot" it went to full autopilot (often I fly not exactly along the mapped path of course, so it banked off target and started doing things I didn't want the plane to do, I just wanted a level autopilot flying dead ahead). This has happened in every bomber I've flown (He-111 for example which is a plane I really like), v.4.08 and 4.09b (unmodded, before I found this site), which isn't too many and it's purely because of this issue. Basically I'm not very good at concentrating on another crew station and trying to fully pilot the plane at the same time...I need some kind of level autopilot. So I don't fly bombers.

Hi vanir, you need to assign the "LEVEL STABALIZER" not the level autopilot. Its at the top of the list in the controls screen, about the 5th one down.
