RAAF skins
#1

There aren't many, not that I can find. Mostly I need 75sqn and 77sqn P-40E/M skins and 79sqn Mark Vc skins. But that's a little optimistic, any RAAF historical skins especially for the P-40E would be fantastic. Links, whatever.

I'd be happy to help with both Spit VC & P-40 if you help out with historical research...I can do a mean Spit VIII for you if want too Smile

This is an old wip of a 76SQN P-40E of Bobby gibbs at Milne Bay....If I recall right? I was working on it quite a while back

Oh mate that is just perfect! Beautiful work, I've got another of your skins I think, it's the same skin with a P, only I had no idea that was 76 sqn early. I've got their later (43) skin in the P-40M along with 75 sqn, but now at looks as though I've got one early 76 sqn skin, that news if fantastic!

75 sqn had a good reputation, the very afternoon they arrived at Port Moresby early in 42 they shot down a number of Betty bombers that were attacking out of Lae. The next afternoon they escorted a bombing force (Bostons and B-15's AFAIK) in a successful attack on Lae, disabling many IJN aicraft on the ground. Later in New Guinea it was the IJA which took over the primary aerial combat in their Oscars and Tonys, but by then 77 and 79 sqn were operating from Goodenough Island (P-40M and Spit MkVc) and formed the upper pin of Operation Cartwheel to remove Japanese air power from the South Pacific entirely.

The Mark VIII came into use in 44 during operations to liberate the Dutch East Indies, which then had its war of independence. They didn't see action for long but got rotated to the mainland as Mustangs were to be substituted from late-44, but this didn't actually eventuate. Since the state of war in the South Pacific had subsided and any immediate threat to Australia resolved, intake of the Mustang became the post war air fleet for the RAAF, and those units awaiting them were mostly disbanded. the great stocks of various Warhawk marques on loan began the process of return to the US, plus a couple of various other types from Airacobras to Liberators.

Someone seems to be running around with a generic 79sqn Spit skin at least:

Here's a historical photo during 1943:

This one is piloted by the CO but obviously later in 44 when they got the Mark VIII (Feb I think):

Hang on, hold the phone I seem to have just found some 79sqn Mark Vc skins! Now all I need is early P-40E skins which...you're already doing!!!

This is good news Tongue

Please forgive double posting.

I was thinking maybe something along these lines, the 1945 RAAF scheme, for a Mark VIII and also if possible...a P-51D
