Well we can do new slots, which is probably all we could learn from how they added them to the game.

It all lies in the model format. Unfortunately, the *.msh file suffix is common to an unbelievable number of different formats, just like *.mdl.

And then there's always the .msh is a binary of another format. An ancient but still modded strategy game, Battlezone 2, does that. The game uses .msh for model files, but they are derived from .xsi files.

Actually that's a route to look at, as the original IL2 and BZ2 were released around the same time back in 2000/2001.

Shall I send someone with more IL2 expertise a few of the BZ msh files to see if calling that format works in IL2?

Don't forget that for most of us in the west, only a short year ago were being told IL2 could not be cracked, bs, bs, bs, one guy did it but its not possible for everyone, etc. Six months ago we were being fed that any modding would kill the game, etc.

The community has proven that anything is possible. If not today, maybe tomorrow.

Actually, what crossed my mind when I saw this was that if true, I would be struggling as to why to move to BOB if it ever does come out. Just my two pf.

Eraser has a really good point! We ought to look at some of the games that were being developed from 1C and others around 2000-2002... Then I think, we will get a real understanding of how the mechanics work...

Well nearly all games are developed in some version of C, IL2 is all java so that really sets it apart. the mechanics would be all different.

I meant specifically games using a msh model format might be the same one. I have hellzone on msn, next time I see him I'll send some stuff his way. So if you see a crazy looking low-res scifi tank attached to part of an IL2 plane, we'll know the model format works.

Java is also derived from C, the diference is in the inner workings mostly. Java is interpreted and C/C++ is compiled. I bet the game engine itself is not weritten in Java, because interpreted languages are by definition slower in execution. Java might be used in menus and to set up objects and data but the flight engine itself must run in a fully compiled environment just loading the objects prepared by Java.

Well, perhaps the answer is in Java somewheres... maybe the msh needs to be layed with java first, in order to be recognized by the engine...

Umm...... ??? That is the Lomac:Flaming Cliffs Su-25 model... isnt it?

Interesting... this video I linked to, the one showing the plane "in-flight" has been removed by the author. And still no reply to the original. Makes you wonder dont it...

Seems with every passing day, this turns out to be more a fake than reality.
