Are they adding more?
Il-2: over 400 planes
SOW:BOB: 14 planes,
I think I'll stick with the current sim Big Grin

Do you realize its probably 100x harder to model a plane in SoW than in il-2? each plane could take a long time even with a dedicated team.

Well, let's think about this...

The Maddox Team does have much more experience now, far better hardware, and generations more advanced software than they did with IL-2.

IL-2 Sturmovik started with a much smaller set of aircraft...

...hummm. This will be interesting. Smile

Yes, just like il-2, SoW will gradually get more planes. 400+ maybe Big Grin
I'm just saying, SoW has much more to offer if not in planes then in everything else.

Well I hope the SOW will just be the Next Sim in the IL-2 series basically but with heaps better graphics and engine etc, hopefully still reasonably easy to mod.

Oleg himself said making planes for SoW is far more complicated than Il-2 as the attention to detail is immense. Consequently, this list stands as it is with the added incentive that 3rd parties can aim to make these planes flyable.

Well, the Defiant is needed, IMHO.

A promising list, as I see it. That a more complex game will become harder to MOD is pretty obvious.

Well, yes and no. From what Oleg has said, it appears that the SoW system will be more 'open', so less arcane knowledge may be required - hopefully it will be documented properly too, though unless it is translated by someone with a more conventional take on the English language than Oleg, there may be the odd problem or two to start with.

It will clearly involve a great deal more work to achieve the level of detail required to match existing aircraft, and such projects may need teamwork to complete in a reasonable period. With an open system, there may be a fair bit of lowish-quality work coming out at first too, so the modding community will need to keep an eye on standards. As I understand it, Oleg has said that only aircraft meeting required standards will be permitted on online servers, and if this is properly adhered to, it should help to keep standards high, without discouraging offline experimentation etc.

Several of those aircraft strike me as rather unecessary for the battle of britain, though of course i may be wrong and, should i have a rig good enough for SoW, i shall heed my own advice in such circumstances and enjoy the relevant ones and view those others as extras.

I can only hope that if SOW gets modded, the modders go on 1 line and not like the present situation that you have 3 or 4 versions. it's almost sheer impossible to keep track which MOD is for which version at the momenr speciallly when you have been away for a while.
