This tool is not made for Il-2 any version, but can edit Il-2 TGA files too. But to run it you'll need a legal copy of Theatre of War.

Unforchently no... Im not buying the game to figure this out ither.

I used a freinds UBI account to make the patch for Ubisoft IL2 Download, is there something like that for Theatre of war ? Somone who is willing to trust me and let me barrow there copy/account.

I know how anoying this sort of thing can be... pity I can't help bar suggest perhaps mearly acquiring the tool itself might be enough...? Maybe it could be re-conifgured to look for IL2, without the worry of having to find a ToW?

I doubt the format is the same (related images seem to be .gif) , but
found this reference to .imf:-XconqGDL

Possibly this helps explain the origins of the file extension name (convention?)


On a side note I wonder why Oleg didn't use .png format, it would use 1/3 less memory!

You see the trick is that for some reason Oleg approved ToW modding and he allowed these tools to be released as a part of the latest ToW patch, together with a ToW SFS extractor - but he's still against modding Il-2. So this TGA viewer will work only with a legal copy of ToW - hard-coded within the EXE itself is a check to see if the copy protection bundled with ToW is present.

It won't work without ToW. I tested it.

It won't work with a copy of ToW downloaded from torrents. I tested it.

It only works with a legit bought copy of ToW.

It sucks, i know, but until something else comes along it's the best thing we have.

...cracking EXE's and other things is more than doable. Never say never Radoye... Look at this place, think for a second, and remember that this place has achieved the impossible. If someone tries, he will get what he wants... eventually...

I think you had the wrong copy. Has to be the ORIG installer and not one someone made.
I had got that. Im trying this last one.

Further to that we have;

1. A tried and tested long way to convert the .tga files

2. A quick way to do it, by using and not abusing this thread.

3. An anouncment from the fellow who made this converter for ToW who has said he is interested in making it work for Il2.

With these 3 points in mind I would appreciate it if we could keep on topic here which is for people making requests and people wanting to convert these requests.

I don't get what the sudden hurry is, and I would much prefer to see a little patience shown and a little faith in the blokes ability to re-arrange his own program.

There is no real need for a sophisticated program to do IMF conversion.

The IMF file is a TGA divided in 2 parts : RGB image data differentially coded and alpha channel also differentially coded. Having them separated makes it easy to use alpha channel for shades etc.

If there is anyone there with a working setup of VB or VC compilers I can provide the info I discovered so far to make a simple converter.
