Moon light

How about making a MOD that allows to switch to nights with or without moon? I know we can prevent the moon light with clouds but its a little hard flying at night with poor to thunder clouds.
It would be awsome flying our new Bf-110 night fighter without moon light 8)

Agreed... Fireball could code it so you change it VIA the .mis file which would be great.

Good Idea btw.

I was thinking along the lines of including all phases of the moon.

So was Oleg it seems! Theres a full 27 day cycle of tga's in the maps.sfs, but all we ever see is waning gibbous. If I can actually discover which one is applied in game maybe something can be done.

Odd because map load.ini files do give different moon0000.tga - moon0018.tga etc.

Probably to save on resources/cpu cycles.

Doubt that, would only need one skin per mission. Probably dropped plans for a calendar.

note that map load.ini also gives month and declination.

Altogether now......
"I see a bad moon ......."

skin name is moon0017.tga, substituted here with a quick edit.

Looks as though the Moonlight effect is still there though.
Anyone got any ideas about that?

I'll take a peek in the class files and see if I see anything.

Oleg actually claims that there is a "date" section in the mission editor/mission file.
This may also control the strength of ice (but I haven't tested this second piece of information).

Date may possibly only relate to introduction of Aircraft types etc. in DGen, but you never know what you might find if you dig deep enough. I even found a file called starforce today Confusedhock: , dont think its the evil rootkit variety though.

Thanks to Fisneaky's discovery of the collection of different image files of the moon, as well as Hellzone's prodding Smile, I took a look at the class files related to the moon, and was able to come up with a mod that will let you set different phases of the moon for a mission by setting a 'MoonPhase' parameter in the mission (.mis) file. Depending on the value you set the moon will be in different positions relative to the horizon, and will be in different phases (full-moon, half-moon, no moon, etc.).

The mod right now is in the 'WIP-BETA-MODS DOWNLOAD' section here:

Oh yes...skins are something that I know NOTHING about.

I've temporarily removed the mod til I can take a look at an error people are running into when opening the FMB with the mod installed.
