I'm sure there are people that follow these boards that could do such a thing.

I read sometime back that the code had been cracked for IL2 series. So, it's probably very possible with the code and all.

The biggest obstacle is legal. Who wants to take the chance on making code changes unless Oleg releases the code to Open source. I know from what I've read that making changes in the core programming is difficult...

In so many words... Oleg made it known long ago that changing FMB and AI were tough projects and there was no assurance they could effectively apply changes competently. He was referring to using the current Il2 series core programming.

The BOB II WOV got a source code release several years back and we are just now begining to see viable improvements in the sim. The original developer released the code, but the code wasn't competently documented so there has been a lot of trial and error work done. Most devs don't comment their code that competently... that is like sweeping the floor. It's nice to have a clean floor, but it doesn't make you any money.

Oleg may release the source in time, but don't expect it before he has gotten his BOB SOW and other projects firmly in place with his customers.

I don't doubt some of the people who spearheaded this mods site have the original core source code. I just doubt they're going to go beyond some supplementary mods and things without a source code release.

Well after all pretty much everything you can download from here is illegal in the strict sense - pretty much any mod that requires files to be extracted from the SFS. And i don't see people being deterred by this.

Could be you correct. Maybe, the level of work being done doesn't ruffle Oleg's feathers like tampering with his core executable.

I'm kinda at the end of my rope as far as knowing the legal implications.

Since, I can't program the code it pretty well leaves me to "watching".

Most likely he's enjoying the unexpected boost to sales that the mods have caused. Smile That can't do any harm to the future of SOW either. Win/win.
