Dual IL2 install. clean and MOD
#1

G`Day does anyone have a "clean" Il2 installation and a modded instalation on the same hard drive?, ive got both on my C drive, the clean is for general online use, the modded for offline and for using on the AAA server. Only thing is ive had a few CTDs and blue screens since. Anyone else have the same problem?

Also to switch from one installation to another i have to change the folder names each time..which is pretty cumbersome. Any one know of aan easier way?

cheers

mercenario, I have a clean IL2 install in the Ubisoft folder in Program Files. I copied that file to the C drive and add mods to that copy. Copy the exe to desktop for each version and all is well.

Obviously the desktop icins need different names. Mine are 1946 and 1946 Mods

I have 5 versions of the game on my HD , 408 clean, 408,modded, 409clean, 409modded, and for some reason a 407version that I forgot to remove, but I only keep three shortcuts on my desktop all with different names.
To keep the switching at hyperlobby simple I just named each version by using a single letter.
such as 408m and 408mb this way when I sign into hyperlobby I simply remove or add the single letter to the version I am using. I really should say that is what I used to do as my squads have slowly all gone over to the mods now and seldom fly without them. We have all becomes addicted to the improved sounds and added effects and have found that the game feels very lack luster without them, but old habits die hard and I still keep the other versions as backup, one never knows.

I use the mod switcher

but in these days where HDD are cheap and large....320gb being quite normal now....I use the HyperOS Supergeek http://www.hyperossystems.co.uk/

with three HDD on my system of 320gb/250gb/180gb I have divided into 17 partitions....... some of only 10gb and some of 20 or 40gb
...and I make copies of the C drive to another partition...and can boot into them and run them as normal

so i make a copy (backup) of my C drive every month or so.....I have one XP install just for video editing...with no internet tools or anti-virus, just the essentials for that purpose

For what is worth. Being new to all this mod stuff, I copied a second folder in program files on Drive C and labeled it Ubisoft2. Downloaded mod programs as per instructions, downloaded what mods I wanted to try, made a second desktop shortcut labeled IL2-Sturmovik2 and opened the sim. So far I been working out of the FMB because I have test maps I've made for trying out different aircraft. I cannot believe the difference in engine sounds, this alone makes this worth while. And I finally got to fly a Catalina.
One question though, how do you get the floats to retract and extend? If I go to autopilot they will retract but not extend. Do not see a command key for this. Any help would appreciated. Thanks.
The only other thing I can see is that the splash screen is in Russian. Which does not really bother me. Other than that everythings seems to working fine. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you for the Beaufighter X, one of my favorite A/C. I can wreck all kinds of havoc on shipping with torpedos AND rockets when I feel like playing in "John Wayne" mode. Hey, sometimes you just want to blow things up, right?

...gear up / gear down

for splash screen ..... copy any background.tga and background.mat ( from missions folders...) ...rename them as background0.tga / background0.mat .... mod structure: game root\MODS"whatever you like"\gui

example: game root\MODS\splash screen\gui\background0.tga

hope that helps

and yes , Welcome Big Grin

cheers

fly_zo-NAVY, of course! Maybe I'm biased. Funny I don't remember too many (any) Marines looking like Catherine Bell. Thanks for the info, in the immortal words of Homer Simpson, Doh!. Although I could have sworn I tried that, but that could have been "old timer's disease" kicking in.
Thanks,
C2
