High res oil splatter
#1

Hi all,

Was just wondering if there is a texture file for the oil splatter that appears on your windshield when your engine is shot? I wouldn't mind having a crack at modding it, as the defaults are kinda sad, but I can't find the damned things.

Thanks!

Heres a thought Idea Is there a .mat file for them? IMO be cool to have them animated rather than a big black glob that doesn't move ( at 400kmh?)

Are we talking about something like animated rain drops on windshields? Maybe with this lines in some of the mat files? I am wondering would it maybe work.

Version 1 of FB had them. They were deactivated by the devs and never seen again. Might be worth looking through the original version of the game to look for clues.

Was thinking of the "'.txl" file where you can add animated skins-

and substitute in .mat - eg:-

Quote:[Layer0]
TextureName animation.txl // oldskin.tga
PaletteName
Frame 0.0

then the skins go in txl file -

Quote:[ClassInfo]
ClassName TAnimatedTextureList

[General]
nFrames 13
Time 0.3
Loop 1

[QualityLow]
FPS 18
ImageScale 0.5

[QualityHigh]
FPS 24
ImageScale 1.0

oil1.tga
oil2.tga
oil3.tga

[Generator]

A solid black texture and progressively morphed alpha channel ought to do the trick.
(Or does it come from the damage model? Cry )

+100 for new oil skin regardless.

[EDIT] Too late again, damn tabbed browsing. Wink

What we see on windshields from the cockpit is not damage texture, it is that zoil.tga (for oil slick).

Fisneaky, do you say that you know how to animate them, put them in loop? Then "movable" oil is not far. Although I don’t understand "progressively morphed alpha channel".

Just testing - AI, lol they never shoot you when you need them to!
In the QMB, make your plane a Bf-109 and the enemy a Hurri IIb.
Then set him to ace and fly straight at him in the ensuing headon.
You are 100% sure to get your engine shot.
Works for me everytime (thats why i ceased doing headons with the ACE or Veteran AI a long time ago).

Cry

Too bad, I have just made sequences with 8 tgas to be animated. Well, this is how they look in 512x512 resolutions. Now I can made them bigger and better, because there is no need for moving alpha channel Tongue
