[MOD] HUDConfig - combined HUD and speedbar config mods
#16

Thanks guys

Just had a chance to check in.

I realized that I forgot to say why I was interested in the new guage "read outs" and also the coordination with the speed bar.

I am in the process of learning to use the Norden bomb sight.

I find that to use it I have to set altitude in feet and (TAS) speed in mph.

Still not sure what to do but that goes along with the territory.

"You can get a more accurate reading for testing this by setting your speedbar airspeed to increment every foot, instead of every 10 ft. "

Wow, that's another new question for you......how ?

Just remembered: I posted the 3 screenshots for showing the speed bar and its read outs doing the same speed in the 3 different measuring things.

Thanks also about the pipper thing.

Yeah, now I know it shows I wasn't exactly trimmed perfect for rudder and aileron.

I'm still getting used to the delay between actual keyboard key press and trim reaction on the airplane. I was tired and just wanted to take the screenshots.

But now I'll use that to my advantage - although I do try to use the cockpit view. But its a handy thing to know.

So my quest goes on.......in bombardier's cockpit position 2.

Oh which oh which oh which speedbar do I use to convert speed to bomb sight TAS.

KIAS or mph.

Maybe that was my original question/confusion.

I think it is.

I'll keep reading and thinking - but it hurts. No joking.

But I want to be a good bombardier.

Thanks for clearing things up for me.

I appreciate it.

I'll be back....hopefully with not so many questions.

Regards,

KC Jones

Ok, does the mod support IAS/TAS switch?

By default this mod decreases the altitude increments to 5m./10ft and decreases the airspeed increments to 5kmh/5mph/5knots. It also gives you the option to change the altitude and airspeed increments to whatever number you want.

If you want the default settings, just install the mod as described above. You don't need to do anything else.

If want to modify any of the default settings, you'll need to add a '[Mods]' section and some lines to the end of the conf.ini file in your game folder. (SAVE A COPY OF YOUR CONF.INI BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES) Here's a sample you can copy/paste and modify as necessary.

These settings will cause all of the airspeed and altitude displays in the speedbar to increment by one:

[Mods]
SpeedbarSpdKMH=1
SpeedbarSpdMPH=1
SpeedbarSpdKnots=1
SpeedbarAltMeters=1
SpeedbarAltFeet=1

You can include any or all of these parameters as needed. Any parameter you omit will be set to the default setting. Be careful with the spelling, the parameters are case-sensitive.

There are also some other HUD/speedbar options that you can set in the conf.ini file. Take a look at the README file in the original post for more details.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes it does. To do this you need to install this mod AND the Hotkeys mod located here:

viewtopic.php?t=4981

There are several options you can set with the Hotkeys mod, one of which is adding TAS readouts to the speedbar. By default the Hotkeys mod does NOTHING. You'll need to add a '[Mods]' section to the conf.ini file in your game folder, then you set each option by adding lines to the [Mods] section. (SAVE A COPY OF YOUR CONF.INI BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES) Here's a sample you can copy/paste and modify as necessary.

[Mods]
SpeedbarTAS=1

With this option set, when you cycle through your speedbar you will have three additional settings: kmh TAS, knots TAS, and mph TAS.

Take a look at the README file in the original post for more details and other options available in the Hotkeys mod.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Fireball,

I do apologize for not paying attention to the readme file.

Sometimes I get caught up in the excitement of the moment and well....

Thank you for your patience.

I'm probably being a bit dim here, but when the read-me says

" -- If you choose 'HUDGauges=2' you need to copy the 'hudleftMph.tga' file in 'MODS\HUDConfig_b1\GUI\game\hud' to 'hudleft.tga'."

where do I copy it to? Where is 'hudleft.tga'?

Sorry, but I'm new at this.

Love the mod though; all those 'foreign' measurements were doing my head in!

I had to the same puzzlement but was too embaressed to ask being a newbie.

I finally did a Windows search for "hudleft.tga" and found it in the game root\Files\gui\game\hud subfolder.

Then it was just a simple matter of copying the hudleftMPH.tga into there. Perhaps those words could be added to the readme.

You might want to do a similar search just to make sure I'm not leading you down the wrong path.

My head is finally stopping spinning from the IAS to TAS math.

But a belated thanks to Fireball for helping me out.

I now have mastered this MOD. Got all options in and activated. But my bombing still stinks :-(

Also to urufu_shinjiro for explaining what that pipper does. That was driving me crazy trying to figure it out.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Take care,

KC

Yes, I did a search for HUDLEFT.TGA before I posted, honest! But there isn't one.

My files\gui\game folder contains nothing but BUTTONS; no HUD folder for me to put HUDLEFTMPH.TGA in.

What have I done wrong?

Any help appreciated.

Sorry I just saw this. I think I really need to reword that in the readme file.

What I meant to say was...Find the hudleftmph.tga file in the 'MODS\HUDConfig_b1\GUI\game\hud' folder. In that same folder make a copy of hudleftmph.tga and call it hudleft.tga. Or you can simply rename hudleftmph.tga to hudleft.tga.

Hope that's a little more clear. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Fireball

Thanks for that. I did what you said and everything works well now. Great Mod.
A modification of the read-me file wouldn't go amiss; I'm sure there are plenty more thickies like me about.

Quote:That little piper indicates the actual direction of travel. Meaning that the gunsight shows the direction the nose is pointing while the piper shows which direction the plane is flying in. This is useful for several things, a slip indicator, shows angle of attack, it's very useful for carrier landings.

The little circle and pipper serve as slip/ball indicator.

I would really like to see this in "cockpit views". I rarely fly the HUD.

Also, it would sure be nice to have a digital readout placed over instruments in "cockpit views" of airspeed, altitude, heading.

Slip and ball are really needed for best targeting. That makes flying the P51 where the slip and ball is up high next to target reticle very effective.

I don't know if the circle and pipper can be put into the "cockpit" target reticle, just a suggestion.

It's probably been asked before, but I've not been around to read the posting.

Is there a way of using this mod to set the flaps increments display to read in 1% increments instead of "combat flaps" "takeoff flaps" etc.,?
I have my flaps on a slider and would much rather see "10% flaps" for example than the current text.

Is there exist a mod/config to do this?
