QMB Maps question
#16

I'm using 4.08 but I guess it would do for 4.09 also.

1. Create a folder in your Mods folder. Actually it doesn't matter how you call it Smile
2. Unzip QMBMinus into that folder.
3. Add [quick] section to your conf.ini and list the maps of your choice.
4. Start the game and look at the quick mission editor's screen. If some labels misspelled then you have to correct them in the i18n/gui_ru.properties (quick.* entries).
5. Press FMB button and create some quick mission templates. The rule is simple - there have to be 4 flights of 4 planes for each side (it doesn't matter of what type). Save these templates into the Missions/quick folder. Naming rule of the templates is pretty straightforward - [Map][Side][Mission]00.mis. So, for my Crimea map I had to make these misions:

CrimeaRedNone00.mis
CrimeaRedAirbase00.mis
CrimeaRedArmor00.mis
CrimeaRedBridge00.mis
CrimeaRedScramble00.mis
CrimeaRedStrike00.mis

And the same for the blue side. That's it!

Well, I made a folder in the Mods folder and called it QMBMinus. I Put the QMBMinus.zip file into it and unzipped it there. I went into the QMB & just ran a few different maps to just check them out.

Now all of a sudden the game freezes at 30% loading ground objects.

I don't see any misspelled words so I haven't a clue what is wrong.. Hell with it for now. Its 2am & Im goen to hit the sack & start all over again in the morning...
Bummer.

I did add a few maps that weren't already listed under [Quicks] in the conf.ini

It also changes the resolution of my desktop from its native resolution of 1680 x 1050 down to 1024 x 768. it shouldn't do that...

If the game starts loading your quick mission then it's ok with spelling mission name Smile
Now, you have to go deep into the missions details. Remember - ANY quick mission you create has to have 4 flights of 4 planes for EACH side (i.e. 32 planes in all), no matter this mission is for red or blue. Actually, ground objects are optional. You can create a mission without any of them and it will work as long as there are 4x4 for the red and 4x4 for the blue.

O.k. I guess I was just to tired to think...lol

I see now that when you install this QMBMinus mod it kills all of the quicks that are already there.

I didn't even make a quick scenario. I was just playing the quicks that I had always played.

I hate that FMB because I have to stop everything and spend a day reading up on all lthe FMB "how to" that I printed out years ago. I can never remember what to do, & finding the different items to put in a mission is really a long drawn out process.

Well, guess I had better get to it...lol...

Man, all I wanted to do was change the order of the maps not become a map builder...lol..That is really time consuming & at my age I don't have a lot of that left...lol..

The first thing that I did was to create a "Quick" folder in the 1946 root folder "Missions" & that is where I will save the thing am going to make up...

hope that is correct to start with ...lol..

shouldn't the original QMB maps that were already in the game from its beginning work though?

Hmmm, I have done 4flights of SlovakiaRedNone00.mis with 4 aircraft each, kand the same with Blue. One flight has a player and the others are all checked as AI.

I have them starting in the air returning to a homebase.

I saved the files in a Quick folder that I created in the Missions folder under the root 1946 install.

I created a folder "QMBMinus " in the Mods folder and it has allof the unzipped files from my download of QMBMinus.

I did discover a folder in the mods called QMBV2 and it has a Missions folder with a Quick folder inside of it...

Is this where I should be saving those files which I create in FMB instead of the folder which I created under the main missions folder ?

Right now I can't even play single missions or create a campaign..Freezes at 30 of load & resizes my desktop and want's to send Microsoft its error message.

Man, how can one little mod cause so much trouble...
I have tomorrow off so I guess I'll be spending the whole day and night uninstalling & reinstalling just to get back where I was..

I don't back things up because I don't know what to back up.
people say: "be sure and back up your files" but I have nevere got that to help. I don't know what files to back up because a file change usually has some effect on the registry etc......

Well, well, well... Perhaps you have mixed versions of QMB and that's the reason the game crashes. I'd suggest you to remove that strange QMBV2 folder (never heard of that).
There's just 2 options for you:
#1 - find and use someone else's quick missions for the map of your choice,
#2 - create those missions yourself.
As for FMB troubles - yes, one needs to know some basics to be able to create quick missions. But don't be afraid to get deep into FMB, there's nothing special... Step by step approach rules Big Grin

Thanks...I'll pull that QMBV2 out of the mods folder. I have no idea what is suppose to be their and what is not...lol..

I did the slovakia map with 4 red flights of 4 aircraft each starting in the air and passing through 4 flights of blue with 4 aircraft each.

I named them slovakiaRedNone00.mis & same for the Blue.

Then in my conf.ini under [Quick] Custom0=Slovakia

So...Now I should be able to just launch the QMB with the Slovakia map & at least get it to open so I can fly some aircrarft...or do I have to create each segment for that particular map...Armor, airport etc before it will work?

As long as you don't fly scramble mission you don't have to build that quick mission template. The same for the rest types of missions. If you try to fly a mission that has no template yet, you'll get an error message.

hi Murph. I'm not getting an error message... It just freezes solid at 30% of loading the game files.

I did do a 32 plane SlovakiaRed and BlueNone00.. Custom0=Slovakia is in my [Quick] section of my conf.ini

Man, all I have to do is touch a mod and my computer just quits working.

I have followed LSAs directions to the letter.. Very frustrating.

None of the Single missions or QMB scenarios will load past 30% I even tried to creat a campaign.. It froze solid at 30% also.

i didn't touch a scramble mission either... I was just flying the qmb & after a reboot...nothing more...

Oh, this is just great! I ran the uninstaller for 1946 & it is gone from add & remove programs, however the game is still there. It didn't uninstall anything.
I can't launch the game though because it says it isn't there...

so, how do you manually uninstall il2. I have never...NEVER... run across this one..

All this problem for one small mod...I can't believe it!

PapaG39 Wrote:so, how do you manually uninstall il2.

delete the folder

IL-2 1946 doesnt requires registry entries to run so you can copy your game folder from one pc to another without any problem

this also means that you can make a backup of a clean (non-modded) install by renaming or copying the game folder

Yes, that's a radical solution. But you have nothing to loose, I gues...
Just rename your current IL2 folder - perhaps you have some valuable stuff in there (skins, missions, records etc.) and later you'll be able to pick it up and use again. Anyway that's the way am doing Smile
Now install the game and then install QMBMinus only. And see if it's working... The worst thing you'd get is an error message (in case if a quick mission doesn't exist).

Just a thought...Could I then run the il2 1946 installer and direct it to another folder on my C drive...such as "Originalil2Install" and rename the game testil2 or something like that, but install it into that Original folder also on my C drive. Then I could use it to mess around with.

I know it is me not installing things correctly, but also the directions made up by people who know sometimes are just a bit unclear or they leave some important step out that they just know from rote...

I just got my game up and running through 4.09b1m & it is nice, but I have something out of wack & I have no idea what...
My QMB has a bunch of online maps available and my Slovakia map won't show up...

When you mess with other fokes cool mods it can really get frustrating after a while...lol..

I think LSA, that the QMBMinus wouldn't work for me because I didn't have the maps installed correctly to begin with. I must get things correect before I can attempt anything else...

Yes, you can install the game into any folder on any disk. I have couple of working versions both on my C and D drives.

If you can see and load your map into FMB then you can load it into QMB either.

That's kinda what I was thinken.. If can load it up in FMB then it should show up in QMB...But it doesn't!
So I must have something in the original install out of place. Not knowing just how these files & folders all go together I don't even know where to start looking for the out of place files..

Do you have any Online designated names showing up in your QMB settings area?

So if have the game installed twice on the same C drive, buit in different folders & with different names you think it should work o.k. with no conflicts between the two in the registry? Maybe I'll try doing that just for grinns...
