(4.09)Alpha available ...Thailand/Burma/Indochina

I made a six-pack of single missions for this map which can be downloaded from the AAA single missions forum.
Flyable plane is a P-38L-late but I made the missions for the upcoming P-61 MOD and the missions are also suitable for Beaufighters and Mosquitios. Just go into Full Mission Builder and alter the plane type.

good to see more missions about....far too few of them.....you'll have to re-do it when the Burma map comes out....lol

No problem. I love making missions. With all the new maps there's plenty of material to keep me busy for years! Your new Burma maps alone will keep me busy for years! This Thai-Indochina map could still be improved in the future with the development of the Vietnam area too. That would give coverage to the French-Indochina war that others have been working on already with "fake" maps. But this map as-is now is good enough to build plenty of missions on. Thanks!

It's still too soon to see a lot of missions for this map. Slovakia and Bessarabia don't have many missions either. It will come in time. If you build it, they will come. I think a major problem is many newbies to MODS get frustrated with how to install everything right. I'm helping one guy with advice. He didn't even know where to start. More people are coming around though now that it's more advertised on the UBI forums and M4T.

Question: As you know, I have the old Thai map with the uphill airfields. Which new file do I download now to get the best map and actors file?

And, will the map be further updated in the future? If so, what will be added?

update to the Thai map at my site....contains latest actors.static and map_h/t

so it has some of Lal_Rone's new Hangers added (you need his new pack installed) and a Seaplane base at Moulmein with slight alterations on height and texture map

added a few more buildings around ....must be close to release as a version 1

Was reading the AVG history and found the following paragraph:

"Early in January, the Rangoon defense was reinforced by eight planes from the First Squadron and the A.V.G. began their first strafing of the war. Hitting the Jap air base in Thailand, they wiped out a dozen planes on the ground. On January 13, the remainder of the First Squadron joined the other A.V.G. forces at Rangoon and there followed a series of raids on Jap air bases. Ten days later, January 23, after a series of engagements over Kunming and Rangoon, the Japes attacked Rangoon in force again, 72 planes appearing there and the A.V.G. got 21 of them with the loss of only one American pilot. Air battles continued over Rangoon until it finally fell to enemy ground forces at the end of February. During this time, in one strafing raid in Thailand, the A.V.G. knocked out upwards of 60 enemy aircraft on the ground, the biggest ground victory of the war. But advancing Jap ground forces slowly drove the A.V.G. to bases at Magwe in Burma and eventually into the interior of China. "

Now, it mention a "Jap air base in Thailand" which they strafed. What was this base?, i think it must be in this map. Big Grin.

Base seems to be Tha-Hin, which location i have no idea. (Dont forget this for the Burma map Tongue)

Im posting way too much in this...anyway, im excited Big Grin. With this map can cover most of the early attacks on Rangoon by the IJAF (Ki21,Ki27,Ki30 and Ki43) against RAF (Buffalo) and the AVG (Hawk81).

BEST INFO SITE EVER Big Grin

From that i found that the map have one airfield missing:
"Burma, January 1942. Large arc shows the range of JAAF heavy bombers at Bangkok; smaller one shows the range of the light bombers at Phitsanulok, Thailand. (The arc of Allied response is shown unshaded.) Note the Hanoi-Kunming battle area at upper right."

The base at Phitsanulok is not present in the Alpha we have Big Grin.

Another little thing:
"he formation crossed the Salween River at an altitude of 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). The heavy bombers were in the lead, with the light bomber trailing three kilometers behind them on the left, protected by the fighters. At 12:30 the bomber crews could see the white "A" of Mingaladon's runways, and the dust from the Allied fighters taking off. "

So Mingaladon should be "A" shaped base. Big Grin

And Third: There should be a field in Raheng, which i cant find also. (Ki27s operated from there), and an airfield at Mudon "Later the same day, the 62nd Sentai heavy bombers escorted by 50th Sentai fighters attacked Moulmein airport and its satellite at Mudon with a total of 65 planes." And theres another field mentioned at Lampang.

Please dont hate me for posting too much. Tongue (Read that site info...is the mission maker paradise, can now make a full realistic early Burma campaing!!)
Awesome work Fabianfred!!

Good stuff Oblongo. There were probably several more fields not placed on the map. Maybe they were insignificant to the Thai-French conflict that FF had this map originally intended for. Remember, the Burma area was added later which IMO was a great idea because of the air raids you mentioned above.
I see FF added the seaplane base at Moulmein. Great JOb! I think it's good to suggest things that could be included. One person working alone can easily overlook something. I applaud FF for being open to suggestions and having a WIP map to add things before a final version.

FabianFred, I have not download the latest map files yet but I did notice one weird thing at the airfield at Moulmein. Maybe it's fixed on the newest map but .... when placing planes on the airfield facing south, when engines are revving up, they slowly turn to the southeast and takeoff onto the grassy area and occasionally crash into the hangar. Maybe something is not aligned properly?? Maybe it's fixed now?? I don't know.

Looks like some good info there......the first diagrams I have seen of any Burma airfield....

The new Thai mappack has a re-skinned Thai house I made and also a yellow tree....but if you use the new updated actors static only, then you will not have the house/tree files so it may crash

I have been using the Moulmein strip with my 'Recall' mission...but only taking-off to the North ...I'll have to check the other way....it may be better to only have one icon and force traffic to go in and out in the one direction...... I'm sure most airfields mainly used the one way
Reply

OH! one takeoff direction. Of course, I didn't think of that. I should have looked more closely at your earlier posted screenshots of the airfields. I'll be more aware of this "one direction" airfield system in the future. Thanks.

If I make the new Mingladon airfield as in the diagram....would it be better to copy the present dual-strip to Toungoo? ... or leave it as it is at Toungoo as a single?
