Initial start screen
#1

Hi All,

Being a total newbie at the mods scene, my apologies if this is a stupid question:

When I start the game the first screen that appears is the default Corsair and Zero over an aircraft carrier. I'd like to change it to something of my own design.

Question is: How?

Advice, preferably step-by-step (as I'm a PC simpleton), would be much appreciated.

And while I'm here: Many thanks to all you modders who've given me the Beaufighter X, the Hurri IID, the Spitfire I, the Tiger Moth, skins and all the other mods I'm still trying to get my head round. You're all brilliant!

Testerchild, This is from my Revised Mod install for beginners ver 4.09b1m Part 2

1. Go here: (The link is inoperative) and get this: DOWNLOAD > Splashcreen_Changing_Mod.rar

2. Follow the readme carefully. Create your own backgrounds or hold on a minute while I find a link to some.

4A: All credit for gathering these below goes to Berserker and I thank him.
4B: Go here: viewtopic.php?t=1725&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=splash+screen&start=30 and scroll down to Berserkers post, here it is quoted:

[quote="BERSERKER"]In this link is my collection of backgrouns, a lot of them

They are already converted to the TGA format

Well, this is my humble contribution to enhance IL-2.

Is not an MOD, but I think it is much better that ugly backgrounds of IL-2 Wink .

To use these backgrounds, just to decompress the file,
And rename the name of the background, for example background001 as background, and finally, putting every background, in the corresponding folder. (end his quote)

4C: Go to this link to get them: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XQQ1N8G0
Megaupload can be confusing, just disregard all the stuff going on and look to the RIGHT of the MEGAUPLOAD logo with the yellow arrow under it and enter the 3 letter code in the box next to it.

Be advised, this is a 40MB download but you get a ton of ready to go backgrounds for many different Countries.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Forager,

Thanks for your reply. I've downloaded the splash_screen_changing mod, but the instructions say I have to copy two lines in 'filelist.txt'.

I've searched all through my 1946 directory, but no trace of 'filelist.txt'. Not aywhere.

Any ideas?

P.S. No need to rush to reply, its 23.40 here and I'm going to bed!

Cheers

Bob

Forager,

Forgive my late reply - Real Life gets in the way sometimes.

I've followed your instructions, adjusted several of my own photo's, and... Hey Presto! It works.

All I need to do now is enhance and add to said photo's to make a really decent screen.

Many thanks for your help.
